Hold on........Benitez played him as a DM, then tried to get him to replace Alonso, then reverted him back to the DM role. He did start as a DM first, but is, perversely, best remembered for the futile AM role he played in 2009/2010. That said the abuse he got from the Anfield crowd was ridiculous. He was the posterboy for all that was wrong with Benitez, yet was a really good signing in the end- endorsing the viewpoint I have about Henderson and Carroll both of whom are in their very early 20's are being judged {not by you} via the flaky logic of their current achievements relative to their price. Lucas had a period of anonymity, and then a period of ignominious and undeserving blame, before he finally came good.
I'm sure the summer before he signed he'd just won player of the tournament in South America by playing behind the forward. It was only a few years in that he started to look like an accomplished DM.
Oh I agree- but Benitez never bought guys to play where they used to before he bought them. :laughing: Its part of why people never liked Benitez- he thought he knew the game better than they did. :Chainsaw: I will say this much for my own viewpoints: I never tried to bail Kenny out by blaming Suarez, like talkSHITE are. Kenny lived and died by results on the field, not because of Suarez. How many people who quote Suarez for Dalglish would quote Gerrard for Benitez? {alluding to Stevie G not being able to get his Phil Collins tapes played at some dive in Southport}
In any case, regarding the Liverpool thing, for me, Martinez as Manager and Rafa as DoF is about as happy as I can get with it.
Between 93-97, Newcastle finished 3rd, 6th, 2nd and 2nd. After the finish of the 96/'97 season, Dalglish sold Ferdinand, Ginola, Beardsley, Clark, Asprilla, Albert and Beresford and replaced them with Tomasson (near ruined the young lad), Guivarch, Des Hamilton, John Barnes (aged 35+), Ian Rush (aged 39), Stuart Pearce (aged 37), Pistone, Ketsbia, Andreas Anderson and Paul fucking Brayson. The result? Newcastle finished 13th... The man responsible was Dalglish. He took over a team universally recognised as one of the best in Europe and which just required a little defensive tinkering. Instead, he ripped out it's spine, selling top quality players for peanuts and replacing them with a succession of absolute fucking garbage. It took Sir Bobby Robson four years to return Newcastle to the place they had been prior to Dalglish's disasterous tenure. That man is a legend on Merseyside, for good reason. But here is he loathed for what he did to NUFC. Deservedly so. 'Up and down' my backside. MTF :shit:
Sky Sports News reporting that Brendon Rodgers has refused a request by LFC to speak to him. MTF :notallthere:
Even if he doesn't win the champs lg, he should be given the job. Are they worried that he won't buy well in the transfer market or what. Rumours of Capello getting the job are spreading.
Brendan Rodgers is a handsome individual and all round free range egg. My hero Tommy Burns set me on road to English top flight, admits Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers Aug 5 2011 Gavin Berry BRENDAN RODGERS was once headhunted by Jose Mourinho - but the Swansea boss says Tommy Burns will always be The Special One. Rodgers watched his side beat boyhood idols Celtic 2-0 in Wednesday night's friendly at the Liberty Stadium. The Northern Irishman spoke of his pride at hosting the Hoops and told how it was Parkhead legend Burns who put him on the path for England's top flight. Having been forced retire at the age of 20 due to a knee problem while at Reading, Rodgers was appointed head of youth development by then Royals boss Burns. Nine years later Rodgers was plucked by Mourinho to head up the Chelsea youth set-up and two years later was made reserve team gaffer. Rodgers has gone on to be a boss in his own right, with spells at Watford and Reading before taking over at Swansea. But the 38-year-old owes it all to Burns and revealed he'd love to follow in his footsteps by bossing Celtic one day. Rodgers said: "Celtic were my boyhood club, with the likes of Danny McGrain and Tommy. "Tommy was a hero, a great man and a friend of mine. He was a special man and saw something in me early on. I've been lucky to work with some of the world's top bosses but I got a lot of human qualities from Tommy. "He had time for everyone and made me see you can be a good guy and a good coach. We'd talk for hours. When I was at Chelsea I'd visit him. "I last saw him in August 2007. He took ill the next February and before I knew it he'd died, God bless him. "At his funeral you saw the respect he had from all sides. "He was a wonderful football guy but an even better person. Tommy twists, Tommy turns, Tommy Burns." Rodgers also paid tribute to Celts boss and compatriot Neil Lennon, saying: "He has shown incredible character and intelligence. "It's a tough job managing Celtic although all my family would love to see me there in the future. Martin O'Neill and Lenny would have walked to be in charge there and I'm no different." :bears:
It's bollocks. It's ONE side of the game, and it's one-dimensional and one-paced. It might look pretty but a truly complete team doesn't rely SOLELY on it.
I admire Brendan Rodgers and his decision to decline the offer at Liverpool and stay at Swansea. He has a good thing going there. He'd be under way too much pressure there to win trophies and make top 4....loses a couple, gets sacked, then what? Good decision.
Jimmy, my prediction for the next time you come to Liverpool. :warning: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/A7Ke0pyV0nQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
