 It's what differentiates between a fighter you like, and a fighter you hope gets beat down badly. Remember,... "Dat Lok is a cool cat". ::
One of my biggest pet peeves is the misuse/overuse of "prime", "past prime", "green" & "shot" (and any other synonyms) when describing fighters at a particular point in their careers.
Catch weights Stay in your own weight class or have the balls to move all the way up. This hatred stems primarily from Sugar Ray Leonard claiming to win the Super MW and LH title by knocking out Donnie LaLonde at a 170 pound 'catch' weight.
Put me on the catch weight wagon, I've always hated it too. Other pet peeves... Space Monkey Hamed People thinking Trinidad is the best Puerto Rican fighter ever and/or would beat Pavlik and Taylor.
Another pet peeve... Folks who obviously haven't seen anywhere enough of a boxer's fights to have an informed opinion.
no.. Sodomized is my favorite.. I want it to spread to main stream.. like for years I said "Battered" and later people were saying it.. like all the sites and talkers.. I hope SODOMIZED reaches the level of the other terms:bears:
 Rounds up to 13 or 15. Immediate dissolution of any 'emeritus' type standings. That is just total bullshit.
Catch weights are ok with me. If both fighters are cool with a weight a couple of pounds north and means they will have more energy to fight then that is a good thing IMO.
dsimon writes: Agreed. I would rather two guys fight at a weight they are comfortable at than try to make weight and drain. I never minded catch weights. I also don't mind guys going up the ladder to try to fight heavy.... I think it is a great way to keep the heavyweight division honest. When Toney and JOnes start beating heavies it gives eveyone pause for reflection and a lot of Bullshot gets shovelled out of th discussion.
dsimon writes: Here are my pet peeves: 1) Bad decisions. The absolute worse thing about the sport. The judging sucks. I wish that there were more "no contest" draws, and that when a fight is basically even it is called a draw. 2) Shitty trainers. I absolutely hate when I see a fighter getting screamed at by an ignaramus in the corner. One of the things I love about Floyd is the relationship between Roger and Floyd and how it plays out. Roger shows what a great trainer he is at these times. I don't see why there can't be more guys who can mentor their fighters. 3) The absurdly low divisions. Sorry Donny you are essentially correct but I can't truck a watch at guys below lightweight with some exceptions. When the punches fail to have real consequences imo the sport becomes dangerous (repeated trauma to the head) and absurd. 4) People who moralize fighters. "This guy hits his wife, this guy is an asshole.....etc,etc etc." You know people one of Darwin's great accidents was when boxing produced the next Malcolm X, a strong black man who lost the best years of his career and couragously took a stand on Nam, who flat our refused to kill in the name of the government. Ali is a saint and that is a wonderful thing. By and large boxing is filled with guys who like to harm other people. These guys are not pious chior boys! These guys are encouraged to harm other human beings! 5) The lack of financial oversight for fighters, Don King and other promoters who are bottom feeders. King and the other criminals who exploit fighters have always been horrible. KIng has mellowed but this element is a phariah on the sport.
sorry, even though you're trying to be worldly, you're still up your own starred-and-striped ass, reed. is F1 included in 'race car driving'? michael schumacher never cared about indianapolis or talladega. and laurence olivier didn't sweat broadway, and nor do young actors outside the US.
big fights not happening - the absolute, utter worst bad judging bad reffing all three have the same cause: the sick economics of boxing
R U DENYING that the United States is the Boxing CAPITAL of the World???:dunno: ... If Not, Get your Union Jack Thong OUT of your Anus... REED ps. Who's Michael Shumacher???:dunno:
I don't follow racing and even I know who he is. Let me just put it this way, he could call himself "Money" Michael Schumacher and put Floyd to shame.
REED Honestly WASN'T Trying to B the Arrogant American, but Apparently Rooster's On his PERIOD today... REED
of course your point about boxing was cmopletely valid - british boxing in particular is an embarrassment, and british boxers are inflated travesties. just yuor analogies were a bit absurd, since you were trying to express a 'global' outlook, while remaining hopelessly insular. and if you really don't know who michael schumacher is, it illustrates my point pretty perfectly. the greatest driver of recent years, one of the most famous sportsmen on the planet. nobody outside of the US even knows whether talladega is a real place, or just made up by will ferrell. this is the gen disc forum, so i'm sorry to moan - it was just glaring silliness.
Just a Hunch, but REED is Thinking it just MIGHT B Harder to Execute a Pull Counter, than to Constantly Make Left Turns All Day... REED:dunno:
Well, it's YOUR Prerogative to B NITPICKY, but U CLEARLY Understood the POINT REED was Making... As for Michael Shumacher, REED WOULDN'T Know the Guy if he Passed him on the Street...The Name is Vaguely Familiar, but REED Thought he was a Jockey Instead of a Racer... REED
Michael Schumacher is among the richest athletes in the world even though he is no more active. I think it is the same as with American football players. Anybody in Europe, Asia and South America knows Schumacher but couldn't recognize any football player. In US it is just the opposite.
