FUCKING WOW.....easily one of the most impressive performances in MMA history.....best fighter in the sport, PERIOD.
GSP sounded like a kid when Fertido (sp?) told him he was going to be defending the belt in Montreal next.....For those who read the interview, you'd know that was a HUGE hope of his
GSP ghfjdgs ghfjdgs Is Hughes still the best fighter of all time to you now?? GSP manhandled Hughes like he wasn't shit! Man that kick to the head was sweet, Matt thought George was going for his leg again and BAMM! I said it before the fight GSP is the definition of an MMA fighter.
the most accomplished fighter, for sure. Two, three years from now, who knows what I'll say, but for now, I'll stick by it....There are definetely more talented, more well rounded fighters than Hughes, but based on what he's done in the ring, I dont think anyone has been better than him
I agree with him being the most accomplished so far but he's far from the best fighter in the world GSP is light years ahead of Matt as far as ability. You still think BJ is a better striker than GSP? I don't GSP is a beast! :sportif3:
Octagon...and octagon ONLY. ANd yes Gatti, I know you pointed it out, but when I say things, people listen.
maybe you misunderstood me when I said I thought Matt was the best fighter of all time.....I didnt mean most talented, I meant the one with who did the most with their talent....To date, Matt is still a greater fighter than Georges. Is Georges more talented? BY FAR, but thats not the argument. You seem to have a HUGE gripe with me putting Matt on the pedestal, but you wont tell me why he's not ARGUABLY the greatest of all time. As far as BJ -vs- Georges' striking.......have I ever said I thought BJ was a better striker? I dont know if I did say that, but if I did, I'll stand by it. BJ is a tiny guy fighting HUGE 170lbers....He fights guys his size and he looks alot better. Maybe Georges is a better striker, it could go either way.....Georges is surely a better kicker, and has a more diverse attack, but BJ's hands are lethal
I don't really have a gripe about you putting Matt on a pedestal not at all. I agree he is a good fighter and by far the most accomplished fighter in the UFC other then Randy {who I put above Matt}. Now I don't agree with him being the best fighter because he is very limited on his feet and with his submissions. He's a very good wrestler but if he can't take you down he's like a fish out of water. So yes he is the most accomplished but not the best fighter. As far as BJ is concerned come man he is not that small anymore so that's not a factor. GSP out boxed BJ the last two rounds of their fight with one eye. If it hadn't been for the finger in the eye in the first round GSP might have knocked BJ out.
BJ's not a big guy, whether he's ballooned in weight or not....he's just out of shape, not big....and Matt's submissions arent limited....He subbed GSP didnt he? He's a great grappler, through and through....
He's not a small guy neither... and Matt submissions are limited... yeah he submitted GSP with one of his limited submissions the armbar. Matt's submissions consist of an armbar and a kimura so yeah that's limited. I never said he wasn't a good wrestler I believe I said he was a good wrestler.
My point was, Trigg has lost by RNC to everyone and their mother, so it's not a testament (not sure if this is the right word) for Hughes's submission skills.
I never said Hughes had great sub skills...just that he had more in his arsenal than an armbar and a kimura. :2:
how many guys in mma are great at more than the basic submission moves? Its not the moves he finishes with, its the fact that he can get himself into position to use those holds and, yes, BJ is a smallER guy....Definetely not a natural 170lber
Plenty... I'm sorry but Matt is limited and GSP showed how limited he really is saturday night. Nope there is not that big of a size difference between Matt and BJ. BJ have gotten older and he's not 155 anymore he's not that small.
GSP showed Matts limitations on his feet, not on the ground...Matt is a great ground fighter, end of story as for the size thing, whatever .... you think one thing, I think the other. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle
Two points I agree with 100%. I also like to add that Hughes seems to lose focus when he's hit cleanly and falls apart. I saw it for a brief moment when he fought Trigg. MH IS and ALWAYS will be a wrestler, nothing more and I'm interested to see how he'd fare under international rules such as the ones in Pride and in Vale Tudo down in Brazil.
:2: :2: Hughe's solid, nothing more. It's laughable to even consider him as the best mma fighter ever.
