that stink you talk about is SKILLS....skills that Margarito doesn't possess that why he lose to Williams...and Quintana beat him quite easily.. that might be you excuse when Cotto beat Margarito...COTTO was moving and didn't stand toe-to-toe...let Margarito hit him in the face...
Pay Double no mind. His uses the word "stink" like Atlas used to use "National Boxing Comission". According to him, Ray Leonard was a grappler who used "stink" as well, so Double deserves no attention.
Yeah great example. Take ONE Sugar Ray fight when he was way past his best, and a huge underdog, and use it to categorize him as a "grappler". They dont come any more objective than you Double. And lets not pretend than Leonard's movement, and late round flurries werent the BIGGEST reasons for him beating whiney ass Hagler.
No he didn't. I hate SRL, but he was rarely stinky. Even against Hearns he wasn't. Hagler is the only one that comes to mind. How about Oscar Vs Tito and Floyd? That was stink.
no. Oscar never uses stink. That's why he's one of my faves. Footwork is not stink. And stalking your opponent for 12 rounds, as he did against PBF is not stink. The stinkiest fight ODH had was against Molina and that was all on John John because he couldn't handle ODH's power. ODH "did" run in the late rounds against Tito. But that's not stink. Stink is tedious, repetitious holding on the inside, either to neutralize the opponent's offense, or to avoid close quarters exchanges. And stink is a symptom of a fighter lacking inside fighting skills. You'll never see Toney use stink. Or Jirov. That's why their fight was so good. Wlad is a stinker. He won't fight you inside if there were a gun to his head. So he grabs you. Ref stops the action. And back we go to a giant freak allowed to exploit his advantages, while his opponents are torn from him by stink.
Oscar didn't throw enough against Floyd, stalking or not, that's stink. I personally prefer Oscar to Leonard, but his performance against Tito is FAR more stinkey than Ray's against Hagler. To argue otherwise would be preposterous.
The minute a fighter doesn't put his face in front of all punches you call him stinky, no wonder why you like Margarito so much.
no. you're wrong. that's a false statement and typical of the over-simplification so prevelant on this board. i'm not a sadist. blood and guts wars are not among my favorite fights. but i do like fights in which both fighters fight. it's a fight. so fight. don't hold. don't hit and hold. don't put your guy in a head-lock and hit him with your other hand. don't grab your guy and then hit him because he's waiting for the ref to break like he did for 6 rounds previously. there's a lot of so called top fighters out there who's idea of defense is holding. to me, that's crap. and here's examples of fighters who don't use stink but aren't face first brawlers: Zab Judah (has good defense) ODH PBF (his fights can be boring but not because of stink) Linares (defensive genius like a snake) Mijares JMM So know now that your post is bull-shit and not true.
no. in fact, i said the exact opposite!!! can you read? ODH humiliated himself in the later rounds against Tito, and was unwilling to take enough chances against PBF, but neither qualify as stink. just so you know, reading comprehension is a prerequisite for discussions like these.
But Double, you said it's a fight, so you like a fighter to FIGHT. And Oscar didn't do much fighting in either one of those fights, therefore he stunk the joint out.
