Juan Diaz does not lack heart man. Quite the opposite.

Diaz ABSOLUTELY lacks heart. When the going gets tough, Juan quits mentally. He did it against Nate, and he did it again against Marquez.

Hopkins always throws a lot of punches provided his opponent doesn't have a significant hand-speed advantage over him, in which case he whimps out and inevitably loses as he did to Taylor, not once but twice and also to RJJ. He is absolutely spooked by hand-speed because against fighters with good hand-speed his mauling assaults can be picked off as they were by both RJJ and Taylor. It's hand-speed that puts Hopkins in a shell. As long as he can be confident that he can fall in and hit and hold without being beaten to the punch, he still throws plenty of punches, even in his old age. For example, he threw a lot against slow azz Tarver and Wright.

Plus, Pavlik's never been known to throw a lot of punches. He picks his shots carefully and is patient in general when he fights which accounts for a generally low punch count.

The only time he can be seen throwing a lot of punches is when he's fighting a scrub and is comfortable going to war with him.

But in general, he takes a more Arguelloesque approach to fighting wherein he tries to time his opponent so that he can land that perfect punch (no, I'm not making the claim that Pavlik is as good as Arguello).

417 is a lot of punches? Because that's how many he threw against Tarver.

it's quite a few for alight heavyweight - yes. it's 35 punches a round. you think that's not a lot? for guys at 175? and relative to his fights with guys with handspeed, the i'm making, it's a ton of punches.

and hopkins isn't the type to flick the jab either.

good for you....Double L had Taylor winning 24 rounds...cause he was throwing punches w/ Bad Intentions...while Hopkins was just picking his spots..landing the more hurtful punches...in 2 fight the only person i saw seriously hurt was Taylor...but i can be objective..i gave the first fight to Taylor by a point or 2....but i will never forget 9-29-01:dunno:...so much for objectivity...:crafty:

I thought Taylor was the first fight pretty clearly on rounds, but the second fight truly could have gone either way.

the first one was definitley a squeaker... I just remember having Hops up by a point or two at the end, but I thought he defintley did the best work in the second one... again the score was close at the end, but the rounds I had for Hops were of the no-doubt-in-my-mind variety, where as the toss ups tended to go to Jermain

Ohh yes didn't that happen in the early rounds of the 1st fight...good aggression by Taylor..but was Hopkins seriously hurt? Like Taylor was late in the same fight..Hopkins landed a few good ring hand driving Taylor into the ropes and and then into a clinch....

it's start around the 2minute mark...

Yeah, but the problem is,.. that.. some posters like to cling to and magnify small elements over the stretch of an entire fight, like for example,..Adamek knocked Chad Dawson down,... Chad was the only one down in that fight,.. therefore does Adamek win?... Fuck no, it was a right proper schooling all in all,..but "HE KNOCKED HIM DOWN!!!" :shit:,... Im just trying to match the pettyness in 'landing the best punch' or 'he was hurt'...by giving you that 'small' example where Hopkins can think himself lucky he was near the ropes when Taylor timed the back of Hopkins skull, during one of Hopkins frequently illegal, 'back and brainstem defence' folds, otherwise it's 10-8 to pair alongside the 9 rounds he clearly lost.

The second fight was closer,..yes, 7 - 5, but I wouldnt cry about a draw, the first though, is sheer and desperate bitterness from Hopkins groupies, same with that cowardly display in the Calzaghe fight..... only Roy is apparently allowed to beat Hopkins, strictly nobody else.

I had Calzaghe beating him clean with no argument, and I can't stand Calzaghe:dunno:
