REED Certainly Doesn't Think HIGHLY Of J'Leon, But Being Signed to a Deal w/Mayweather Promotions and Fighting on PBC Cards/PPV's is a Larger Feather Than Jake Paul Will Ever Wear in His Cap...

KSI is a Non-Fighting Celebrity Paul Could Sell a Fight Against, Due to Their History...Beyond That, It'd Need to Be a Physically IMPOSING Celebrity (On the Surface, @ Least)...

The Rock, John Cena, 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Gronk, Michael Jai-White, Terry Crews...Someone w/an Imposing FACADE, @ Least...But it's Doubtful Triller Could Offer ANY Of Them Enough to Risk the Embarrassment Nate Robison Endured After the Fact...

No doubt, Paul would get beat up even if he ambushed DelaHoya while he's in the middle of one of his cocaine binge, with the full kitchen cutlery hanging out of his ass

Dana White at his press conference:

Reporter: De La Hoya is coming out of retirement to fight again. What do you think of that?

White: Yeah. Well. Cocaine isn't cheap!

We'll never again see boxing produced the way HBO produced it.

Showtime, DAZN, Sky, ESPN, Fox, ect...

    They all pale by comparison.

Agreed. And I think it exists right across the spectrum in life.

Politics, High Culture, Art, Media.........all dominated by fucking children with flashy nonsensical ideas about this and that.

I regard Oscar vs Vargas, on HBO, as a sort of high-water point.

Lampley said "Oscar is coming in without props".....but the music- even the selection- and the camera work, the walk, was all on point.

And that's just Oscar coming to the ring.

HBO's intro music- then the gladiatorial them with the drone shot of the Mandalay- then the commentators........all perfectly done.

SKY used to do a good job, when it was mandatory for all the presenter to wear a tux into the studio.

    Today?

I wish I had appreciated HBO at the time (early 00s). I just assumed they would always be in the boxing game, because at the time, outside of their hit shows like The Sopranos, boxing was their lifeblood.

I know folks like REED always say that HBO Boxing would still be around had they stuck with Haymon, but I truly believe Netflix is the culprit here.

As soon as Netflix started producing their original shows like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, it put TREMENDOUS pressure on a network like HBO to keep up, because it completely shifted the paradigm for how people watched originals.

Netflix ultimately killed HBO Boxing, I truly believe that. I think their bosses at Warner Media would have made the decision to pull the plug on boxing, Al Haymon or no Al Haymon.

Sometimes in life, a thing runs its course. It's progress, technology, change, call it what you will.

The Titanic sinking didn't kill cruise ships.

Airplanes killed cruise ships. We got airplanes falling out of the sky, airplanes crashing on the runway, airplanes being hijacked, airplanes being shot down, but airplanes persist.

Why? Cos that's where it is at -for now.

Whatever killed HBO boxing it certainly was nothing HBO did or didn't do.

You know, one minute Jack Kennedy is the President and Franki Valli is the man. The next Nixon is chatting shit and flares are cool.

Sometimes that's just how it goes.

Things move in cycles. I thing eventually people will tire of the shit and get a yearning for something better. Women used to wear no bras. Then they wore wire bras. Then they burned their bras. Then they got super bras. Now they back to no bra. Around we go.

    Let's see what happens.

I liked HBO but couldn't stand George Foreman's ridiculous commentating. I thought he was the worse commentator ever until I had the privilege of hearing Mancini call a fight. His signature move was to yell into the mic for ten seconds every time a significant punch lands. But still not rock bottom. Sylvester Stallone actually called the championship fight of season one of The Contender. That was a disaster. Rocky muthafuckin Balboa doesn't know SHIT about boxing. Who knew?

Mancini used to call fights in the 80s. He was much better back then than he is now. He's horrible now.

Anytime Mancini calls a fight, he always says the same shit. "I like Fighter A, because he's a pressure fighter, and I was a pressure fighter."

Like STFU Mancini, no one cares!

You don't hear Roy saying shit like, "I like Fighter B, because he's fast and I was fast."

I always appreciated HBO. I remember how much they got bashed when they were in business, but it was obvious that they'd be sorely missed once they had left. Their level especially compared to the TV productions we get over here, was extremely high

No doubt HBO production levels was top notch. But the nostalgia is strong in this thread, kind of like old boomers reminiscing of Howard Cosell. In its last few years, regular HBO was mainly an infomercial for their ppv branch. They deserved to be bashed and I can't say I miss them much, especially considering the production levels of other networks has increased significantly since.

I loved Foreman, sure he would say a lot of stupid things, but it was mostly funny and he was respectful of the fighters. Even more important, I didn't get the feeling he was trying to con me in an obvious way a la Kellerman. Amongst current announcers, I think Sergio Mora does a great job, even though I mostly despised him as a fighter.

not sure how it works, but with this app im guessing they can cut out the middle man aka the cable company or satellite who usually distributes ppv and keep all the income instead of a 50/50 split. at least for the portion of the ppvs purchased through triller or fight tv

Tim Bradley is garbage at commentating. And ultra annoying. You can hear Andre Ward whispering "This motherfucker..." in his head 100 times per telecast.
