It was the live version in 1986 that became a hit in tribute to Marilyn Monroe before it was used in Princess Diana funeral.

It has a spiritual connotation that I dig. Watch the video with all the Christian imagery.

The live version from an Australian Concert made it a hit again in 1986. The video had heavy rotation in MTV & VH-1.

It is obvious you were in hibernation during the 80s.

Aside from the band splitting and Bernie Taupin not writing a few years before, the above, imo, was the real, full-blown start of the downward slippery-slope.
Just turned into a coke-headed caricature who needed his spine stomping on.

he's still alive and his life was pretty boring....dunno why they didn't pick someone like Bowie, which would have all the hipsters salivating

I'm still standing and I guess that's why they call it the blues are solid tunes worthy of any of his earlier work.

I knew someone would post about this.
The answer is ´Yes, if your name is Stattz´.

I seriously doubt any half-serious liker of music or even hardcore fan of Elton John would list any of the output from ´The Lion King´ in his Top 30 songs...

    You are totally insane.

"Circle of Life' and "Can't You Feel the Love Tonight' were both top ten hits for many weeks, won a bunch of awards (including Oscar)and are considered among Elton John's best work ever. The influence of these songs in popular culture was HUGE in the 90s.

Maybe you are confusing the songs of "Lion King" with his songs for 'El Dorado', an okay film with forgettable songs.

No. You've missed the point entirely.
You're confusing sales/what the Academy recognizes as good music (lol).

    Easy.
Just Google 'Elton John's best songs' and see if you find anything from lolololol, The Lion King.

    Then, as usual, die.

It's the "popular" argument... how philistines measure the value of art

As soon as someone even goes there, you know they are worthless and must DIE

what about the song that those animals start signing to Simba about being a honky cat? or that song that plays during the scene where Simba is throwing rocks at a crocodile? or the ghost of his dad singing a song about still standing?

    Yeah, Bernie Taupin.
He wrote/co-wrote almost everything from 1970-75.

Not the bland, forgettable soundtrack-dogshit that panchy was raving about.

So why you keep trying to refute it made it back in the charts in 80s?

The results from Google will be the opinion of 'higher-than-thou' morons like Cdoog & MustDieTurd. Why do we have to accept the personal opinion of these cunts on a high horse? Everybody is a critic today. Yes, I go by number of sales, radio play, awards and cultural relevance over some obscure song critics praised but hardly anyone heard of.
