It's funny, winky can fight obviously, but for all his alleged technical brilliance he always looked kind of simple but effective to me too. High, tight guard, jab jab, straight left. And that's pretty much it. Good timing with the jab and straight left, and accuracy.

Oh and one more thing - I can't fucking BELIEVE that winky was the favourite. I mean wtf? At 170 too? The only reason I didn't bet on hops is because he IS 42, and anytime now he's going to really look his age.

The thing I notice that is special about the basics in his defense, he can anticipate WHEN a punch is coming and blocks accordingly. He has a good sense when and where the punch is coming.

That too, it's all part of his timing. Winky is tough too obviously, but it's amazing to me that almost all of his success has come from great timing, a good accurate jab, and a high guard, that he can put up real quick

He has a really simple style. No variety of punches, not much in the way of footwork, or combos, or feints, or anything else really.

Hopkins did what Hopkins does and Winky couldn't do nothing about it.

This definitely enhances Jermaine Taylor's legacy, with Hopkins victorious, Jermaine's draw has simultaneously been rendered into a W:bears: :cheer: .

I thought it was a pretty good card, I was impressed by Katsidis and Linares, especially Linares. This guy is very good, very fast, nice style and he's pretty young. I thought he dominated Larios, who's a rugged and experienced fighter. At 21 years old, this guy seems to have a very promising career. :bears:
I look forward to Katsidis next fight, he actually reminded me of Marciano in there so I wasn't surprised by Kellerman reference. I don't think he'll enjoy a long career at the top though, he's tough but he's wide open, that'll get to him, sooner than later IMO. The last fight had a pretty good begining but once Hops took control it it became pretty boring, Hopkins is a dirty sob BTW, I know you'll say "Well duh!" but I needed to say it, he's dirty and he clinches a lot, though Wright clinched a lot towards the end too. All in all I had a pretty good night of boxing, one that I didn't expect.

BTW who did know that Linares was that good (Apart from the guys at Max that I don't read...)? That was the first time I was seeing him fight and thought Larios was the favourite against him... :dunno:

BTW, was it the first time Kastidis was fighting a southpaw? He didn't seem to cope well with the other guy's stance, defensively speaking.

:cheer: I'm just so glad that the round robin for p4p supremecy is over, and at the end of the day, Jermaine Taylor, has come out undefeated and victorious.

When two top guys are in there I'm too busy trying to figure out who's winning rather than wondering if the fight sucks or not. I enjoyed it.

Agreed. At that point, Hopkins was in charge. When Bernard is in charge of any fight it's going to stink.

It had action, but it also had to much hugging.

I hate when it becomes a hold a thon. Wright lost but it was close. Most rounds could have went either way

I didn't think it was a boring fight. It wasn't the greatest fight by any stretch but it had good action here and there.

Bernard SHOULD retire though. Beating Tarver and now Wright and then retiring is good for his legacy. Why continue and risk being beaten handily by some mediocre up and comer and have the fickle boxing fans around the world suddenly claim he was never any good?
