While youre in the mood for posting, how about you go searching for where I ever said I like Antonio Tarver.
I picked Dawson by competitive decision, but this was mainly based on the possibility that Glen would age overnight, he is 39 afterall, and not everyone can do like Nard. But I didn't get the hype surrounding him, and Glen was fucking robbed. Dawson was well overrated. People go nuts when a fighter has fast hands and can throw combinations, but it's often style over substance.
I don't need for you to have said "Hey dudes, I really like Tarver". I know you like Tarver, you've liked him for years. You often defend him etc, and you recently stated that he was the most underrated fighter of his generation. You have a generally positive outlook on Tarver. And before you come out with the "Hey, I'm not a fan of his, I can just objectively see how good he is" schpiel - nonsense.
He won at least 7 rounds. Chad was hitting gloves and getting outhustled and bashed up. As sure as I have a hole on my arse, Glen won that fight.
I definitely thought he won rounds three, four and 9-12. I could easily have given him one of the close ones out of the rest. As I said, 116-112 made no sense at all.
:: I believe you're wrong, bro and there are people within this very thread who can tell you as much.
Isn't that what I said? Except for Nard, no one's been able to handle Glen easy. It makes little sense to say Tarver has trouble with straight ahead fighters simply because he struggled with Glen Johnson. In fact, I'd say the opposite is true.
As has just been mentioned, Harmon too. I forgot about that too. I wasn't arguing with you anyway, I was arguing with RJ. And my point was never Tarver has trouble with straight ahead fighters, I was merely pointing out he can't handle them that well, because he's lost to the best pressure fighter he's faced.
Val's the guy who could defend me here. We had some great Tarver back and forths as far back as five years ago. Valdarver ::
You really think he lost the first Johnson fight? I mean are you saying he lost the fight like Roy Jones lost to Park in the Olympics or lost like Clinton Woods lost tonight where the judges gave the decision to the right guy.
Johnson won 6 rounds at the most. Dawson landed plenty to the head and body in the early and mid rounds.
It's true, you are pretty far from a fan. :flip: Then again tarver's recent interviews get on my nerves to.
I used to hate Tarver after his whining after the first Jones fight, which he fairly lost, but I no longer really care anymore. I do think he often gets underrated when people say "all he did was get lucky against a shot Jones". Tarver beat some other guys who were top 10 contenders at the time.
Just no way, I can't see it. It's not like I even picked Glen to win, my official pick was Dawson by decision. Glen swept rounds 2 to 5, then came on late again and won a few rounds. That was a robbery. RJ - I didn't score that fight, and didn't have much interest in it at the time, but at the time I thought the decision was fine. It was close, but no I didn't think Taver won.
Tarver is a VERY good fighter. Johnson arguably beat Woods three times. Tarver handled the guy like Clinton had never even laced them up before. Old or not, Tarver is skilled as hell and if he can assert his range and pace, he's incredibly difficult to beat.
Tarver is skilled, and he is a very good fighter. But the facts are he has lost to the 4 best fighters he's faced.
3 of them he also has wins over, 1 of them really didn't beat him. You guys make it really hard for me. I hate Tarver, i just wanna tell it like it is though.
Those aren't facts. They're opinions dressed up as facts. Not unlike Jaws and his use of the word 'clearly' like he can actually see through those interestingly coloured glasses of his.
dsimon writes: Poor Glen, the guy just can't catch a break. Dawson has a good beak and handspeed but not much else. I can't see him fighting Joe. Tarver should nut up and beat Dawson up frankly. I bet after tonight Tarver will take a fight with the kid. I don't really know who won that fight between Dawson and Johnson but I know it was not a four point fight. And I know Glen caused all the damage. If Glen had better footwork and could cut the ring down he could knock more people out with his pressure tactics, it seems to me.
The one good thing it did was likely eliminate the talk of Woods-Calzaghe. I'd read the promoters had preliminary discussions for that fight, in case both won their U.S. fights. I think tonight's fight simply bolstered Hopkins' claim as the best light heavyweight...and put Showtime's claim of the four best light heavyweights to shame.
