The fight itself is a big gamble. All gambits therein are as well.

Im with Mex, for this one. Though at the same time, its impossible to discount Steve may be right. Forced to choose between their strategies were I Cotto, though...

I don't expect Margarito to be coming into this fight, "shot". Cotto's got to be ruthless, but sporadically. Margarito will be game.

"Expect, the unexpected", should be Cotto's gameplan.

Is Rios' failure at making weight, a sort of ignorant stab at Murray?

Rios needs to stop being a bitch and finally move up to 140-147. Fuck is he doing at 135? Who is there to fight other than Guerrero or Gamboa, he can move up and fight Marquez, Khan, etc.

I don't think so, looking at footage of his training camp he is very similar to Margarito a beast in training goes 100% every day. I think he just cannot make the weight anymore, he has been struggling for a while, so know is time to move up and face his destiny.

It does strike me as odd when people stay at a weight for too long. If it's THAT hard to make weight that you have to starve yourself for days etc, just fucking move up.

Lots of things get in the way. Maybe the boxer is ill-advised by someone close (trainer, manager, friend) to stay at the weight so they do so. Maybe the big money is at their increasingly unnatural weight. Maybe the glory's there. Maybe theyre afraid of someone above them, or just at the idea of moving up itself. Maybe theyre doing a belt-grab through multiple divisions, which was an early goal of De La Hoya's.

What it may be in Rios' case, though, I cant say I follow his career closely enough to speculate.

Yeah I can see that I guess, it might often be as simple as just kind of getting used to something and not wanting to change too much, like not wanting to move house

But often yeah, it's more business oriented, often fighters stay in a division because it's a bigger money division than the one above, or conversely, move up purely because the weight above is bigger money.

In Rios's case though, who knows.

It's clear hes not comfortable at the weight though, so it does make you curious.

people talking Rios vs. Khan but rememeber Top rank vs. GDB so they have to consider that shit before expecting to land a certain fight.

my guess is that recently people started buzzing about a fight with Gamboa I figured that would be the incentive for him to stay at 135 for one more fight.

I heard that HBO wanted to make it right away since Juanma lost and the big fight with Gamboa fell apart they wont' wanna wait around too much.

Both Gamboa's and Rios's camp wanted it right away.

Fuck it now on to 140!

Murray will have a 2" reach advantage over Rios. Maybe that'll benefit him. Maybe Rios' inability to make weight could prove a distraction. Maybe we'll expect, the unexpected. I got a weird feelin' bout this one now.

It would be pretty gnarly if Cotto loaded his gloves for this fight.

    I'd do the RBR anyways.

Mike Jones in the ring right now

Bob Sanders talking about how hard it is to get decisions in Munich. He shouldn;t confuse the American viewers by mentioning individual cities. They might want to know if Munich is near Germany.

Yeah, he had to change that to "Or anywhere in Germany".

So then some Americans are thinking "Oh I get it, so it's hard to get decisions in Munich AND Germany".

Precisely. And that Berlin place too. That's like three countries.

Mike Jones controlled the first round handy. I like his short right upper-cut on the inside, his jab isn't all that though.
