depends on which version.. 122-126 lb Pac & 130 lb Floyd were both bad dudes. 168 lbs was probably Roy's best weight & he may have been superior there.. but you can't really compare the competition Pac/Floyd faced vs RJJ's.
There's a 23 year old kid in my office who considers himself a boxing fan...he's really a Mayweather fan and follows Floyd on Instagram. I sent him highlight clips of prime Roy Jones and gave him DVD's of Roy's fights with Richard Hall, Bryant Brannon and Julio Gonzalez. I pointed out to him that even during Roy's "boring" fights at some point you'd see something you'd never seen in the ring before. After watching and comparing prime Roy to Mayweather he walked away wishing he'd seen more of Roy's fights than Floyd's.
cdogg, I think it was actually that mook IMDAZED. I remember him saying "He's not shot, he's just changed his style" :atu:

You can't seriously be looking for a comparison between their respective resumes. Even if you just count the past 2 years, both guys' resumes shit all over Roy's at 175. Also, you want to say Roy was exciting because he went all Harlem Globetrotters on the asses of overmatched garbagemen and cops.. fine, OK, that's interesting in its own right. But if you don't enjoy watching Floyd do his thing, you aren't a real boxing fan.
i was at the roy jones jr vs julio gonzalez fight at staples center. id say jones jr was already past his peak but it was still the most talented guy Ive watched in a boxing ring live.
Yup. In all seriousness, Roy is the most gifted boxer I've seen in my lifetime (which again makes it so hard to comprehend just how shit he is now)
That's just It, Even Against LESSER Foes, Roy Dispatched of them MORE Impressively...AND he was Doing So Against Considerably LARGER Men... So While You're Using the Overplayed "GarbageMan/Cop" Critique of Roy's Resume, Duly Note he Campaigned @ and DOMINATED a Division of LARGER Men...Hall, Gonzalez, Hill, etc., DWARFED Roy Jones... On Top of that, Floyd's Fought in Weight Classes that HISTORICALLY have Better Competition than Supermiddle or Lightheavy... REED:hammert:
THIS... Roy Jones' Talent JUMPED OUT @ You, Whether you were Watching in Person or On Television... REED:cheer:
mayweather jr, though more technically sound than jones jr, simply never had the erasers. that was the difference, it was suicide to trade with a prime jones jr because of his reflexes and punching power. so guys either got KOd or forced into a shell
I'm not denying RJJ's talent or that he was a great fighter. I just find it funny to see Floyd or Pac getting knocked on in the same breath that RJJ is being lionized in.. come on. Larger men? Unless you count John Ruiz, RJJ moved up to 175 from 160, and was a decent sized light heavy. He's what, 5'11?" and averaged 185 lbs on fight night. Not exactly Montell Griffin (a midget light heavy if there ever was one). In terms of divisions, he moved up 9.4% of his overall bodyweight. Floyd, on the other hand, went from 130 to 154, moving up 18.5% of his bodyweight. Pac? Let's not even go there. :: Both guys have been fighting and beating up MUCH bigger guys for years, and almost all of them were a SHITTON better than the bums Jones Jr was laying out. Oh, and as long as I'm throwing fuel on the fire.. a 175 lb version of Pac knocks Jones Jr from the Woods fight the fuck out :shadow:
mayweather jr was quick at his peak, but not in jones jr's league. jones jr was just otherworldly. imagine getting hit with a punch thrown full force at that speed? and he could do that in combination. but again, zab judah could KO bums. throw in the hand problems, superior opposition, & the fact that his opponents have significantly outweighed mayweather jr for most of his career, and you have a good recipe for less KOs.
Uuuuuuh, Roy Jones Fought as Low as '54 in the Early Stages of his Career AND he Won a Title as High as Heavyweight...Not Sure what your "Overall Bodyweight" Measurement was Supposed to Illustrate, but Factor in the LOWEST Weight Roy Fought @, Por Favor... Roy Jones was an UNDERSIZED Light Heavyweight, Period...During his Era, Roy was No Taller than DeLa or Trinidad, who Both Campaigned Several Weight Classes LOWER...w/the Exception of Montell Griffin & Reggie Johnson, ALL of Roy's Lightheavy Opponents were TALLER than Him...Even Griffin, who was Considerably SHORTER, Possessed More GIRTH in his Legs, Thighs, Arms and Torso... Roughly HALF of Roy's Prime was Spent @ '75 & Only 1nce Did he have a TRUE Size Advantage Over his Foe; Reggie Johnson....Guys like Hill, Del Valle, Telesco, Hall, etc., Stood 6'2 Minimum...Roy Jones WAS NOT a Lightheavy, he just Dominated the Division... Did Floyd or Pac EVER Face a Younger, Stronger Guy w/a 33lb Weight ADVANTAGE Over Them???....Didn't Think So...Since he's Moved Up, How Many TALLER Fighters has Floyd Faced???... REED:hammert:
Like I said. These are small fights for Jones. Keeps him busy. He isnt going for a belt. He is just doing something he loves. More power to him. his legacy is secured.
