Yes, I heard the same. After the Hanshaw fight, Jones said that he planned on staying in the gym. He was asked if he felt he could get down to 168 and said if he continues training, yeah. We'll see.

I think the layoff should be his biggest concern. Roy also expressed that he didn't think the Tito fight would come off because he wanted to fight again ASAP. His timing was off pretty bad in the early going against Hanshaw - against a better opponent, he might've been staring at lights again. But he got much better as the fight progressed and looked impressive. He hasn't stopped training since the Hanshaw bout but another long layoff may really hurt him.

 

what's going to hurt him is Tito's 12" fist. :blobbox:

If Tito wanted to come back, he had to fight Jermain Taylor. That fight is perfect for him. But if he really wanted to do it right, he needed at least 3 confidence boosting fights at 160 lbs, a new trainer who could work with him on the basics (jabs, head movement, defense, etc.) and also work with him on strategy. He's doing things wrong, hastily and without thinking, and that will cost him, let's pray for him to retain his health after this bout, he could get seriously hurt.

That may or may not be true (personally I'd disagree - I think Wright is extremely strong and under-estimated in this regard)...

But net, RJJ doesn't USE his strength/physicality like Wright does, at all.

So whether he's stronger or not doesn't really matter.

Tito hasn't fought since 2005. It'll be 2 1/2 years since he'd been in the ring. Roy's 7 months layoff won't be an issue.

 

Look at Tito's left next to Roy's right. Tito is bigger. Tale of the tape for Jones Ruiz states Roy has a 10" fist. For Tito-Beranrd it says 12".

I've met Tito and Roy and without a doubt Roy is bigger than Tito.

I met Roy a week before he fought Tarver (the first time) and I thought he looked awful (weight drained).

I met Tito the night Oquendo was KO'd by Tua (shortly before Tito fought Cherifi).

As the picture indicates, Roy and Tito are roughly the same height "however" in terms of build and body structure, there's no doubt Roy is bigger than Tito. Tito has narrow shoulders like a teenager. If you look closely at the picture, it looks like he's got shoulder pads in his jacket.

Tito will make 170 easily, but it'll be a soft 170...kind like Winky's 170 vs Bernard's 170.

 

My only fear in this fight is how in the HELL is Roy gonna make 170 w/o being half dead? If he can make the weight and not be completely drained, he'll give Tito the business.

 

He´ll train and stay away from the performance-enhancing vitamines, just like Shane at 147. Not a big deal. Tito will be pudgy, Roy will be lean.

 

Roy will be losing muscle. He's going to look worse then that 1st Tarver fight.

 

And Tito will fill the weight gap with his handwraps.
