I agree. And personally I don't think people that watched either fight were stupid for doing so. And ultimately, that is my only point. On paper things can look one way and then they end up being different in reality. No shame in hoping for the best.
I will 100% admit to that. That being said, if I was only in the General Forum to slam boxing, I would expect to be slammed for it. RJJ is nothing but a troll in this section. So I am guilty as charged. Ban me.
Yeah I know, I mean just look at him :: By the way, I don't think RJJ really started anything in this thread, he hasn't even been trolling much recently. It was that filthy Gerry ElTerrible.
REED's Never Liked Nelson OR his "Jolly Fat Man SCHTICK" for Some Reason...Glad to Know that Mir Beat him... REED:cheer:
I think Rogan's point is that nelson isnt a natural heavyweight. If nelson got in shape, he would be a 205 pound fighter. But Nelson doesn't do it.
Nelson is MMA's Version of the Heavyweight James Toney...U HAVE to Respect his Skill Level & Pedigree, he's an INTERESTING Interview, yet he SHITS on his Own Livelihood by CONSTANTLY Being a Fat Bastard in his Fights... REED:limp:
Bottom Line, REED INSTANTLY Loses Respect for ANY Fighter that Looks WORSE than He Does Shirtless... REED
I agree, most fight recently have been shit. Berto-Ortiz the only one that made me really excited in a while. Hopkins-Pascall II started out good but had far too much clinching, Diaconu-Dawson was a sparring session, Grooves-Degale was shamefull from 2 young supposedly hungry fighters, the Klitshko and Ward are consistently boring, the Bradely-Alexander fiasco shows just out of touch HBO has become with the boxing public, Khan-MCsomething was a bore and don't even get me started on Manny-Mosley
HBO put so much money in the fight between 2 relatively unknown fighters with unattractive style and low star potential. Worst of all, they guaranteed them 7 figure return bout no matter the outcome, wich means, Alexander ''effort'' will be rewarded by a cool multi million dollar payday.
The fans booed a lot last night. Not sure why. Anytime there was even a few seconds lull, you heard booing. Regardless, the Jackson/Hamill and Nelson/Mir fights were just not very good. Expected much more. I think Nelson has one more chance left in the UFC to brush up. He's apparently got a meeting with Dana White on Friday and they'll be talking about his "future".
Indeed, while the fights were decent on paper, they were no main event for it to be ppv worthy. It should have been on Spike.
Agree 1000%. I argued with TFK over on Boxing Fanatics that this was the worst main event in recent UFC PPV history. He brought up some others that were pretty bad, but most of them, like Mir-CroCop, Ortiz-Griffin II and Couture-Coleman, had significant fights on the under card. When I say significant, I mean fights that involved guys close to title shots. For example, Sonnen-Marquardt was on the Couture-Coleman under card. That fight had title shot implications. As good as the fights looked on paper last night, none of the participants on the main card are within a fight of a title shot. I guess Dana indicated that Rampage could be next up for Jones, but I think the Evans-Davis winner deserves the shot. As Hanz said earlier, the fight wasn't sold out live. But there was a paid admission in excess of 12K with a live gate of $2.5 million with an expected 250-300K in PPV buys. That seems OK unless you compare it directly to UFC 129 in Canada which sold 800-900K PPV buys and sold out the Roger Centre for a live gate of around $12 mil.. Not too shabby. To make matters worse, the free UFC Fight Night on Spike back in March held in Seattle had a better live gate. That card was headlined by Lil Nog and Phil Davis.
I get tired of Rogan talking about how Nelson is fat but has great stamina.. Bull shit.. He was out of gas after the first round against both Mir and JDS. Sure he is smart enough to survive despite being gassed, but his stamina bites ass.
agREED... It's SOMEWHAT Admirable what Nelson Can Do IN SPITE of his Slovenly Physique, but there's NOfuckingWAY that his Performance ISN'T Compromised in Some Ways BECAUSE he's Fat... REED:hammert:
Was Nelson in worse shape than the shape Kirk Johnson was in when he fought Vitali in 2003? That was really really bad. Did you ever ask Kirk about that, Reed? Why did he come into the biggest fight of his life looking like that?
He Blamed it on the Injury that Forced him Into Pulling Out of the Lennox Lewis Fight....If you Recall, Lennox & Vitali Fought on SHORT Notice, After Kirk Got Hurt... Ultimately, it's the FIGHTER'S Responsibility to have his Ass in Shape...Roy Nelson, Kirk Johnson or Whomever...Kirk DROPPED the Ball in that Instance & he's STILL Struggling to Insert Himself Back INTO the Heavyweight Mix, BECAUSE of it....He's Pretty STRAIGHT FORWARD when it Comes to Acknowledging that, but @ the Same Time, U've Got Guys like Golota that's Had 100 Title Shots...Kirk Wiped his Ass w/Oleg Maskaev, yet Maskaev's Had MORE Title Shots... REED:hammert:
Oh yeah, I remember that. I remember some stories Curtis Cokes had about the sparring wars between Kirk Johnson and Ike Ibeabuchi. I think he said Kirk had more talent and both seemingly were jealous of each other. It's too bad Kirk Johnson wasted his talent. He could've achieved more. But I'm not sure he was the most confident guy around.
Did Merchant say Johnson was in great shape? Well I don´t know anything about the stamina of harpoon´d whales, unless they are white, but....
Wrong thread, wrong forum. Dude youre perpetually lurking around here every day yet offer nothing. Back to GD with you...
