Funny that was the question being asked on the BBC last night by the usual twitterites/phone in merchants.

His inability to win the CL with City has not just caused problems for City but is now undermining his entire reputation............the words "Mess" and "Can't Do It Without" are now creeping in.

City had a soft tough. An old jaded Real at war with themselves and a workmanlike team AT BEST in Lyon.

I don't feel sorry for any of them.

Now the conspiracies are whirling that it was all set up for City to lose, VAR, etc.

 

As usual when the "bigger" team loses a football match against another professional team there is little credit given to the winner. All the narrative is focused on "what went wrong?"

Apparently this is basically the same as a mysterious case of a downed airliner and they need to acquire the black box from the wreckage for answers.

 

When an airplane crashes, we know what went wrong. It crashed. The issue then becomes why.

Well if, like City, you keep all your ammunition on the bench {Foden, Mahrez, Bernardo etc} then there are issues about how much you allowed the other lot to dictate play.

It's not even like Lyon turned in a great classic defesive performance, City had lots of strikes on target.

Lyon were caught wide plenty of times and De Bruyne had lots of chances from free kicks which he tried to plant into the net himself for odd reasons.

And it's so hard to argue against a guy skying the ball at 2-1. That was the game right there.

So I think Pep got a lot wrong and his team got a lot wrong.
