Messi may still be the best player in the world but he is gradually slowing to a standstill....the ructions at Barca would suggest that maybe they would be better off moving him on and rebuilding rather than trying to buy new pieces who can complement and play second or third fiddle to what is left of him over the next two or three years

Mbappe's a great player but who would you drop from that front three to accommodate him? I think at this moment in time, with the way Salah, Firminho and Mane are so in sync it would be a mistake.

PS it's all bullshit isn't it.

Liverpool are flying for now so it's link them with all the good news stories.

Same when Liverpool are down...they link them with all the bad news stories.

There's only like 2-3 clubs in the world that would spend 200 million and he's already playing for one of them. If he goes anywhere it's Real Madrid.

Question - What would Klopp have to do to match or surpass Ferguson? Could he do it in a small space of time if he breaks records and wins everything there is to win or would longevity be the key?

Against my wishes, I am going to be in Liverpool on 16 March 20 for the derby. No ticket yet so I may not even get in.

I say against my wishes because this time my main reason for going to the UK is a concert. And that date lead me to be there during that weekend.

It cannot be anwered because the era of when men stated at Clubs for 25 years, if it ever existed, is gone.

The issue then has to be "What has Klopp done in his time that equates".

Even then, it's hard to say.

It was such a totally different era.

Today, the FA Cup means nothing, but in Fergies era, winning it meant staying in a job.

    The Cup Winners Cup too.

Fergie had to wait ages to get a proper crack at the European Cup, Klopp basically just had to qualify {finishing 4th rather than 1st} but got to a final and won it in far fewer seasons than Fergie did.

And now he has basically won the title, he's done it, in a harder era, and from a position of far greater expectancy, in fewer years, against IMHO better sides, and a better league.

If Klopp tacks on another European Cup and two leagues.......and does it in the next 4 years, then he's proven on Fergies "level".

For Roberto Di Matteo winning the FA Cup and Champions League (as caretaker manager) wasn't enough to keep him in a job.

That Chelsea Champions League win is the flukiest I've ever seen. Without Drogba they weren't getting near that trophy, and even then they needed Messi and Robben to both bottle penalties. Di Matteo getting the sack wasn't really surprising to me as luck doesn't last forever.

Avram Grant was a John Terry slip away from being a Champions League winning manager. Does show you that that Chelsea squad was fairly formidable, reaching the Champions League final twice in four years under two non-entities, they were effectively self-organised

Precisely. Power-bar munching Midden-Meister John Terry ran the show, hiring and firing as he saw fit. Greatest PL CB ever not called Van Dijk and an utter cunt into the bargain.

Rafael Benitez "had nothing to do with Liverpool winning Champions League"

You mean Roberto DIE Matteo, AMIRITE?

In fairness, the following season, 2012/2013..........they were way way way off the pace in the PL and therefore the CL places, and were GONE from the CL in the group stages.

Only time in living memory that the holder has crashed out in the Group the following season.

No doubt they were formidable. I hate to say it but the Chelsea sides of the '05 and '06 seasons were just brutal winning machines. Kinda strange that they ended up winning the biggest prize with one of their worst Abramovic-era teams, but they still had a core from those earlier sides and were wily.
