    Random thought.....

At pretty much no point in the last half century+ have England's two most successful clubs been its two stand out teams. Liverpool had a string of rivals in the 70s and 80s : Leeds, Forrest, Everton none were ever really Man Utd.... then Man Utd picked up the torch had a string of rivalries with Leeds, Blackburn, Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea, Liverpool never really being the main rival.....then they fell away and Liverpool and Man City took over.

This town aint big enough for the both of us.

Yeah but no different from Duran lacing Moore, or kneeing Buchanan in the groin,or telling Rays wife to chupa lo, or quitting Vs Ray etc.

There's a tremendous body of work besides all that.

I agree, he could have achieved what he did without biting anyone :Jest:

Yeah MAYBE 2008/2009 when United and Liverpool finished 1st and 2nd respectively.

Aye. I think there was a season in the late 80s where utd finished second too....but I dont think either really reached 'stand out rival' status either year. Both were decades removed from winning a title at the time, didnt come that close & didnt really replicate the performance.

Its probably the 60s since they were both evenly matched rival clubs. Slightly odd!

Liverpool did beat United home and away that season but yes it really was just one year..if you throw in that Liverpool had played in two of the preceding CL finals you could maybe scrape an argument out of it

That's a really good observation tbf, quite weird that. As Irish has already mentioned, 2009 is the only time I remember them both properly going head to head in a title race.

I guess it’s fair to say he’s up there. I have an admitted bias against him.

But that aside, he’s as deadly a finisher as them.

West Ham showed me up badly last night after all I had said about foreigners and their behaviour.

Creswell got sent off, Moyes booted a ball at a ballboy and got sent off and a hot mic picked up Rice saying the ref was corrupt :Jest:

Chelsea and Mou should have stayed together. It was more fun hating them then.

I think that's it for the league. I can see City drawing a game in their run-in but not losing unfortunately.

Would love it if City did lose a game though, then it is a literal shootout for the title which would be awesome.

Don't think that's ever happened in the Prem era before. I know City beat United on goal difference in 2012 but they always had the advantage early on because of the 6-1.

Truthfully it got left behind before tonight. It's remarkable we've pulled it back since February.

It's also bittersweet as if City had played today Vs Newcastle they might have been flat and the Liverpool game plays out differently.

If, buts, maybes and Peps still 11 years out from a Champions League.
