Steve Bruce's existence feels like one of ingerlish fitbaws longest running mysteries... aside for maybe one & a half seasons at birmingham has he ever been at a team that overachieved in the last ~20 years? Just keeps bouncing his fat arse from dugout to dugout, doing not-much, before getting sacked or quitting.

It is possible for managers to get fired for no reason, or reasons way beyond their control, or just wrongly.

Ranieiri at Chelsea feels like the best one.

But Bruce is indeed a very strong example of a man who appears to have failed sideways, if not upwards, for well over a decade by now.

He's food for powder for anyone making the argument that certain people keep getting work because of their connections and their history rather than because of their achievements.

Bruce has a few big individual results under his belt. He matched Rafa viz a viz leagues standings with Newcastle- for a season at least. Beachball incident at Sunderland.

Mostly he specializes in giving stressed, soft-voiced, lilting-accented post-match interviews where he perennially espouses the countenance and demeanour of a man who was within yards from the summit of Mount Everest only to be blown off course by a sudden squall summoned up by a jealous Sherpa.

"Well, yeh come heeah, with the squad that yiv GOT.......and they've got so much..abundant kwaltee, and, then, like, yeh play yeh haht out, and den, something like dat happens, it's.....it's very hard to take like"

Ironically- but perhaps not surprisingly- Gary Neville, who likes to rant about the lack of opportunities in management for BIPOC/BAME/LGBTQ+/Fairies/Leprechauns never seems to mention Bruce when the subject matter comes up for discussion.

Don't know if that was good from Leicester or shockingly shit from Man United. As ever, probably a sizeable bit of both.

He has a lot of media friends. They are basically peers from his playing days who won't have a bad word said against him even though he is absolutely shit. He has the worst win percentage in PL history of any manager with more than 100 matches, yet all week his media pals have been claiming with a straight face that Bruce is a better man to lead NUFC out of their relegation predicament than blokes like Brendan Rodgers and Antonio Conte :D

    Very good player. Atrocious manager.

    Pretty much.

He has basically spent two years un-coaching the same players that Rafa had drilled into a tough, organised unit. His first season he got through on the fumes of that coaching, while last year NUFC looked absolute certainties to go down with eight games to go, but five wins in the last eight against two already relegated sides and three with nowt to play for somehow catapulted the team to a flattering low mid-table spot.

This season has been a train wreck. He has seven league wins in his last thirty seven games. His entire strategy is to defend, deep and badly, then give the ball to ASM and hope he does something brilliant.

He needs to be pedalled. Sharpish.

He genuinely hasn't got a scooby and even if United beat Liverpool next week that won't change a damn thing.

He gets a good run going now and then and when that falls apart, like an overpriced stock, he watches the price fall, blames the market, and waits for another wallop of buying and then he rides that crest until that wears off.

Like Bruce, he's a darling even though he snipes at the journos every week and makes the same "the referee/the media" excuses every week.

    Fucking Chelsea though.

    Strictly is for cattle.

    Slack-jawed, staring cattle.

I can picture the scene, a slew of unmarried triangulating couples, strewn around a shoddy sitting room, shoes off, feet on the furniture, with their kids and half-kids painting each other with yogurts as the TV blares this shit into their tiny shallow fucking minds.

Anyone who thinks it's purely coincidental or accidental that this crap is pumped into our living rooms needs coming out of the mist, pronto.

7.3 million. They don't half pack em in!

I think it's agitprop. Right now there's a bunch of self-soiling old gits in a room in the former DDR sat watching re-runs of this shit thinking "Not a bad idea that, we should have thought of it".

Embarrassing scenes at St James. It requires foreign scumbag royals to give people something to cling to. Shame on Mike Ashley. He could have patronised these people. Instead the dollar was his bottom line leaving a gap for salafi thugs to give normal people something to cling to.

Of course the newspapers pearl clutching about the Arabs is also BS. They've paved the way for worse and have made their own bed in which they must now lie. For three decades or more the papers have waved on board all manner of dictator, happy that the noise and excitement generated has kept them all in a good job.

Oh and those binliner flags. FFS

"the Middle East comes to the North East".

Are the fans with the banner about the "city they tried to destroy" aware that Staveley and El Whoever belong to the class of person responsible for the wrecking?

    Just curious.

Again, I don't go along with all the pearl clutching, but there's a few salient historical facts need observing.

Decent game. As Feebles said earlier, Newcastle plan is simple. Give ASM the ball hope something happens.

Spurs are actually far more of a side

Shearer: 'its good the Saudis have invested in Newcastle United because it will help bring attention to their human rights abuses!' Maybe we should let the Triads or Isis to buy Villa next...raise awareness :Gig1:

The best thing that can happen here is that Spurs win by a cricket score. Leave these fuckers under no illusions of the scale of the job required.

Fair play Feebles, not hiding behind sanctimonious shite.

Shearer really is a fucking dullard. He knows the routine. Play the game, keep the work appointments coming. Lucrative easy money for fuck all.

I had to go down to make dinner so I stuck it on Radio5 Live in the background.

"Oh, we need to pay tribute once again to our wonderful medical people"......... such emetic claptrap. Fuck off, they get paid to DO A JOB.

Nobody claps the lad picking up sweet wrappers do they. Twats.
