Really, cause I was gonna say Josef Martinez of the MLS is better than Salah...

Yeah, I couldn't argue too hard if Haaland or Lewandowski had got it over Salah this year, although I'd disagree with it personally. Both have been superb.

Saleh above Haaland due to having had 3, 4 World class seasons including

    1 title challenge
    1 title win
    2 European Cup Finals.
Great record in an awful season for Liverpool.
Going good again this season, breaking Liverpool record in Europe for goals scored.

He's got the body of work. Haaland, has he won anything yet?

I'll defer to you guys, but I'm guessing this peak version of Salah is the best player LFC has ever had?

I know John Barnes was damn good, but never best in the world type good.

I think he has to be right up there but I'd still have Dalglish top at this stage, as I would imagine most Liverpool fans would too.

    Dalglish was excellent.

As I understand, his true peak was his Celtic days, but I can't find any full Celtic matches with a peak Dalglish.

Yeah, Dalglish was a phenom. Hut may be able to shed more light on this but from what I understand the Celtic side he was in was robbed of a European Cup, or a European Cup final. Can't quite remember the circumstances.

In my now few months of following the sport, and having watched film on as many greats as possible, the three GOATs are pretty correctly rated, whichever order you have them in.

I've watched matches of young Pele, young Maradona, and young Messi, and they just operate on a level so much higher than anyone else out there on the pitch with them. True aliens.

Also, to me, Best at his peak was every bit as good as Cryuff. The only difference being, Cryuff was addicted to football while Best was addicted to women and booze.

Young Baggio really impresses me too.

He wasn't Pele/Maradona/Cruyff good, but probably on that 2nd or 3rd tier of greats.

I find it comical as an American that Landon Donovan is our GOAT. That little twerp probably isn't even a top 100,000th player in history.

Yeah, I think talent-wise, the difference between Cruyff and Best is paper-thin. In terms of overall impact on football, Cruyff is light-years ahead, which as you say is a mix between Cruyff being an innovator and Best being a fuck-up.

Baggio was a beast, have you seen much of Del Piero? He was one of my favourite Italian players back in the day. Zola too, one of the few Chelsea players I actually liked.

Pulisic, whilst not a great in the grand scheme of things, is a much better player than Donovan.

Yeah, I could never seen Donovan being a factor at Chelsea.

From watching him, and reading about him, Donovan was a nancy. He could play a bit, but he you can tell he was contact adverse.

I see film of Pele and Maradona, and those two were mugged every time they touched the ball, and just bounced back up and kept attacking.

A mental midget like Donovan would shit his pants going through that.

And no, I still have to watch full matches of Del Pierro and Totti. As of right now, I'm just going off highlights.

From what I've read, there's very little separation between Del Pierro and Totti, and both are considered inferior to Baggio.

Slice, did you watch that old clip of Jimmy Greaves I posted?

I thought Greaves would be more of a limited striker - I was shocked at his excellent dribbling ability, and change of pace/direction.

I did, gotta say I was also surprised just how quick he was. Was a lovely goal. I always felt gutted for Greaves that he never got his day in the sun in the '66 World Cup final. Geoff Hurst took his chance with both hands to be fair to him, but Greaves doesn't get the credit from the younger generations that he should have, because of that, where as Hurst is immortalised forever, despite being a far inferior footballer.

I had never heard of Hurst until right now.

Greaves was one of the first names I saw when I looked up great English footballers.

Henrik Larsson looked good. I know Celtic fans swear by him. Was he truly as good as anyone in the world, or was he just great for the Scottish prem?

Larsson was awesome, one of my favourite footballers. He was loyal to Celtic but absolutely world class.

Larsson was in my top 5 favourite forwards around that time actually:

Brazilian Ronaldo, Shearer, Ferdinand, Larsson and Henry. In no particular order.

Oh, I watched Dejan Savicevic. That guy was a genius. Very impressed.

I see that he was runner-up for the Ballon d'Or in 91, but it went to Jean Pierre Papin - whom I almost watched. He was an excellent goal scorer.

Raul was excellent for sure, was never a favourite of mine though. He was a bit like Owen or Van Nistelrooy I felt in that they were almost programmed to score goals, and they did it as well as anybody, but they wouldn't get you off your seat, style-wise.

Eto'o was awesome, great player. Same with Schevchenko. Brilliant at Milan and when he partnered with Rebrov at Dynamo Kiev.

Yeah for sure. He spanned both the Ronaldinho and Messi eras and was brilliant with both.

He's given icon-status over here because he scored a hat-trick in the '66 World Cup final, which to this day remains England's only major trophy. The truth is he was a good player, not a great one, who had a great game which also just happened to be England's greatest moment in football. The reality is he was nowhere near the level of genuine greats in that side like Greaves, Charlton and Moore, but then I guess it's all about taking your chances when you get them, which he did.

    Watching a Liverpool-Newcastle game from 96.

Robbie Fowler was decent. Watching 80s Liverpool games, Ian Rush was better.
