I don't enough about Cousins to make a comparison. He's above "average" but not much more. I'd put it this way, if the league he was playing in had an all-star game he wouldn't be in it, let alone as a starter.

To be fair he's playing for one of the richest clubs in the world and minutes are hard to come by when there's a lot of great players to select from. To make matters worse he's been hampered by injuries so he hasn't really had the chance to play a good string of matches and get momentum going.

 

He'd be the best player if put him in the MLS. In the English Prem League, he's just "there." If he wasn't American, no one would speak on him.

The media talked about him as if were Vincicius Jr or somethin.

It's hard to compare because the depth in world football is so much more than the NFL. You're talking about a global population versus a primarily American population.

Pulisic can either be utilized as a winger or an attacking midfielder. I doubt he's top 100 in the world at either position; but again, futbol (or soccer, or football, fitba, whatever blows your hair back) isnt like the NFL where positions are so structured and final.

 

There are just too many players in futbol to have such a ranking although from time to time i suppose various sports web sites will make a list of their "top 50" or whatever. It also makes things more difficult because positions aren't as static as they are in American football.

 

Beat ya to it, but we basically said the exact same thing.

While there's no official rankings, fans who know the sport do put together educated lists and post them in various blog articles.

REED you can just Google somethin like "Top Wingers in World Football" and you'll see all the big fish listed. You won't see Pulisic...

 

Right, but beyond the term "winger" being very vague, most of those best lists are total bullshit anyway. They're based mainly which club the player is on.

Some guy is not on the top 50 on any list you can find. He signs for some major club, and boom! just like that he's somehow already rated 23 in the world (or whatever) even though he hasn't played a single match for them yet.

Probably Pulisic among attacking players . He's played on a higher level than most the rest have.

Freddy Adu was a huge bust because unfortunately he was given the label of "the next Pele" before he was even 15 years old. Mind you, the American media gave him that label, not experts who know the sport.

Unrealistic American expectations ruined him, and I don't think he ever had time to properly hone his craft among people who knew what they were doing.

 

For outfielders it's probably between Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan. The Americans have had some solid goalkeepers as well such as Tim Howard.

Adu never reached anywhere near the supposed potential he had. He's been playing semi-pro ball for years now all over the world. Wouldn't surprise me if he still is.

 

Sooooo are you calling out the English fans who last year said about Haaland: "Tap in merchant in a farmer's league! Wouldn't even start over here!"

This year: "BEST STRIKER EVAHHH!!!"
