I once said that if i had to clone one guy to play in every position i'd choose frank rijkark but griezman would be a really good shout too

 

France will already be a 3-time WC winner if they win on Sunday. In fact, regardless of which nation wins on Sunday, it'll be their 3rd.

 

Normally i'd be a neutral and just hope for a good match but certainly rooting for Argentina for Messi's sake.

I don't know about all this "cementing" him stuff but it would be nice to not have to always hear "yeah but he never won the WC" when he's mentioned like it's some sort of black mark. People will have to switch to him not getting it done on cold rainy Tuesday in Stoke.

 

I agree it shouldn't be the be-all and end-all when rating him but it has been a mark against him and deservedly so because for a long time it was the only time we ever saw him outside of what was for, during the majority of his prime years, the greatest club side of all time. He was the most crucial part of that side and you can't blame him for not leaving, I get it. However, he was surrounded by some wonderful footballers with Argentina and never delivered. For me personally, he cements his place as the best if he does it on Sunday and plays an integral part.

 

Will England place Messi above Paul Gazza after Sunday?

 

I think he's up there already regardless. Yes he's been on some great teams, but the last time they made it to the final they faced an even better one. Figures to be the case this Sunday as well. In 2014 same as today Argentina wouldn't been in the final to begin with if Messi wasn't there.

I don't really get into this GOAT stuff as it's really impossible to compare different eras. At best i think you can have sort of a group of all time greats.
