Just staying in the prem & competing is a huge achievement if you're brighton or brentford, imo. Maybe if they hang at that level long enough they end up pulling off a cup run

I know but at what point do you look at success as something more than not getting relegated. It's as if individual players are allowed to have ambitions but the smaller clubs aren't. Just be happy with what you have. It's sickening when you hear things like a player is 'wasting his career' if he doesn't play for one of the "big" sides.

I have posted this before but yes, that has been one of the downsides of following the Prem. My early dose of reality was my first year as an Everton fan. We had Rooney. The boy wonder. Grew up an Everton fan and now he's at Everton getting it done at age 17. The future looks great. BUT WAIT! One problem. He's too good to play at Everton now. He HAS to leave. And he'll go to United and we'll just accept it cos he's way too good for Everton now.

A couple of years later, same thing with Andy Carroll at Newcastle. And Newcastle just has to accept that their local lad is now just too good to play there.

It's a sad and strange concept for someone who had only watched US sports.

JESUS H, what a goal by Sporting.

Sporting & Arsenal coming down to crunch time. Arsenal looked good early but now on the back foot.

Yeah, maybe it's a North American perspective. Naturally over here there are a lot of players who would prefer to play in a major city than just wherever they end up in after a draft or a trade but nobody is "too good" to be playing in Milwaukee or Edmonton. I can't imagine a fan saying "yeah, that guy deserves better, he should be in L.A. or New York".

What really grinds my gears about is how monied up clubs can raid rosters of teams they're supposedly in direct competition with, domestically or in Europe. Rooney being "too good" for Everton is not the same thing as some 14 year old talent playing division 2 in Lithuania getting bought by the highest bidder. In the second scenario you may have used your financial muscle to outbid rivals but you didn't simultaneously weaken anybody that's a threat to you.

Best example of this is Bayern. It's a shame as I thought the Bundesliga was becoming the best league in the world before Bayern started raiding the competition.

Ay man, it is what it is Arsenal fans. Might be a blessing in disguise, concentrate on the league. Sporting played fantastic in both legs I have to say.

Yep. They've raided BVB and Leverkusen for quiet some time. Now look at Leipzig. Nobody in Germany has any love for them but it's the same pattern. Not only did they take some of their best players, they poached the manager too ffs.

The portugese clubs give me a bit of hope as a Celtic fan. They need to be the role model.

Bit of a 'who cares' question but is it time to change how we describe fitbaw formations? Because the current way really isnt very descriptive. Basically no teams play 4 at the back. And pretty much no teams play more than 1 or 2 up front. Nearly every team has something closer to 4 lines than 3 with the full backs and deep midfielder in one line and the wingers and attacking mid in another. A '4-3-3' is pretty much always either a 2-3-4-1 or a 2-4-3-1.

In Fifa I always play a 4-2-3-1 formation.

There's been a guy out on the street outside playing a tin whistle for two days & he's not even playing a tune, just a swirl of dee-doo-doo-diddily-dee-diddily with no beginning or end for hours like the soundtrack to some fractal Irish DMT trip

I like the idea of a 1-1-8. Keep those fuckin keepers on their toes at all times.

Shows how tactically naive you are. You need that extra man in the midfield.

I can't work up any malice towards Beckham, he's just a bit dim & easily led. Like a nicer version of Prince Harry.

Our PL match is delayed because Fulham are still in the Cup.

How is wee Fergus? Give him my regards. He will forever be part of the unplanned success that was our stroll up to Celtic Park on the day Ross County were put to the sword by halftime.

A year ago today.....time flies when you're battling NGO cunts.
