Wish I could say Inter has a chance tomorrow, but they don't.

Home and away, pretty much. In one game anything is possible.

What do you think of the mccallister signing? Good player but doesnt seem a very Klopp-Liverpool style signing on its face, pretty conservative with the ball. Change of tactics? Love his Glasgow bammy laugh tho...weird the things that get passed down in the genes

Can never understand why they put these games on so late at the w/e. It'll finish at 11pm in europe

As a general rule i like his style, not the most sophisticated, but its a running game now these days and he's a worker.

Klopp generally improves players too. I can't knock him there......with respect to Brighton, take a good player, get him in with more good players, and a guy known for boosting talents, and it seems promising.

But what i like most is the manner of the transfer. They knew what they wanted identified the target, and got it done, pronto.

As Bill Shankly used to say "if ye cannae make a decision, yer a bliddy menace, yer better to go and be an MP"

With Milner done, Henderson nearly done, Firmino gone, this needed to be taken care of, and it was....si no moaning here.

Dunno if you'd be old enough to have vague memories of this but while English teams were banned from europe they were holding a yearly unofficial 'british cup' between the Scottish & english champs in dubai -CFC& LFC in 89 - which was apparently sportspage headline news. You see from this that both teams took it seriously, playing at full pace & with tackles flying. Kenny being manager probably played into that. Obviously the two teams played again a month later in a much less competitive game at Celtic, but Liverpool played one other game after this so sellik are spared the role of bread in the ultimate shit sandwich

It's a black spot in my history of following sports. Coverage back then wasn't what it is now and I didn't often have unfettered access to whatever coverage there was. Once the Prem and new CL stuff came in, a lot of stuff was memory-holed, never to be seen again, dismissed as irrelevant or just anachronistic, embarrassing.

City have a habit of doing this in the CL. Wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t deliver here.

Awful final to be honest. Would have been better if Lukaku wasn't such a massive spastic.

Inter could have won that. Give Dzeko Lukakus physicality.

The only positive is that City will not get better. They'll regress now....I'm certain of it. They weren't brilliant this season at all and are likely to rest on their laurels.

Its looking like Rodgers. What a depressing thing to wake upto on a Monday morning. Besides the sour taste he left personally i can't see any reason to believe he's an appointment that'll help move the club forward

Thats going to be totally dependent on us developing a deliberate/systemitised player trading model which reliably returns £20m+ per season to allow us to bump the wage bill up closer to ajax/benfica levels. Rodgers history of managing squads/assets is piss poor both at Celtic & Leicester.

For every Dembele, Ajer or Tierney we turned a profit on there were twice as many wasted high fees on non-young players -De Vries, Gamboa, Kouassi, Compper- and as many very expensive loan deals - Musonda, Benkovic, Burke, Weah etc- totally counteracting the benefits. Just pissing money away. Besides that we also turned down £17m from Porto for Ncham when he was at peak value, keeping a guy who didnt wanna be there until he left for pennies. When guys like Boyata & Dembele were sold there was no succession planning for replacements so we went into CL qualifiers playing reserve players in key positions

Zero strategy, zero long term thinking - probably 6 month time frames based on him angling for a EPL job.

If just getting the league over the line this year so we can get CL fitbaw the next year is the height of our ambitions....whats the point in getting into the CL at all? Totally retrograde step which i think it proves Dermot Desmond is still effectively running the show rather any younger, supposedly more progressive guys beneath him and that landing Ange was basically a complete fluke

Yeah and this is all being done via the "track record" system.....whereas as you allude, Postecoglu was a real educated shot in the dark where values and metrics were relied on rather than "track record" as there effectively was no (British) record to go on. The guy came across as a "football man" and so a punt was taken.

The same at Liverpool with Klopp and Benitez where they had zero exposure in England, weren't unknowns but "he ain't done nuffink over here" and had recent setbacks but also an aura of being total football men who COULD get 2nd tier outfits to compete. No guarantees, no promises, but "unorthodox" but smelled like they'd got a clue.

It's no coincidence that the "known quantity" "safe pairs of hands" that were Hodgson, Rodgers and to a lesser extent Dalglish were all less successful than Klopp and Benitez.
