I actually think you have the better side, but the weaker squad. That's the difference over the league season.

And it's been ever this, buy 1 sell 1.

We need Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot to have big seasons now.

Abramovitch basically made the EPL what it is. He started the trend of moneybags owners who made millionaires of jobbing executives in places like Wigan or Burnley. Keeping up with The Abramovitches saw billions flood into English football and the racket, the din, the CLAMOUR to get shut of him at the drop of a hat beggars belief . People who owned yachts bought with the filthy lucre he'd made them suddenly screaming about decorum etc

I don't know how most of this shit works. Not sure if really want to or if it's even possible but how does the sponsorship part go? I assume that's an "allowed" part of total revenue. I also assume the clubs can set their price no different than a TV channel can set the price for an 30 second ad spot and so on. Couldn't the ownership work out a deal with another rich Saudi company not directly related to sponsor them for a kajillion poonds? Would seem a pretty easy way around FFP when the cash is not being spent directly by the owners.

That's basically what Shitty and PSG did, yes, and it is expected that NUFC will do likewise soon. However, there are some caveats.

Firstly, Fat Mike has tied NUFC into a number of long-term, low value sponsorship deals which, unsurprisingly, the companies involved are in no hurry to terminate. Hence this summer NUFC were able to announce a new sleeve sponsor but not much else.

Secondly, putting a massive down payment in for stadium naming rights is a real sticky issue because St James Park is and will always be St James Park.

Thirdly, the PL 'big 6' cartel is so frightened of the newly minted NUFC that they have introduced new rules which mean that any sponsorship deal must not exceed 'fair market value'. This rule was brought in two weeks after NUFC were sold and entirely with NUFC in mind. What would constitute 'fair market value' is not clear. What is clear is that NUFCs market value is going to be less right now than, say, Spurs, which is not something you would have said ten or so years ago.

I'm sure that list is inaccurate. It doesn't account for PSG and Spain's GNP backed Real Madrid and Barcelona. Newcastle has been going after young players in their prime and they don't even have Europa League. Eventually their money will get them up to that level then they will be serious players but it doesn't happen overnight. Just look at Manchester City.

Ah ok, that makes a lot of sense. Didn't know about the "fair market value" aspect.

It sort of sounds like the right way to go, but of course it hamstrings "newcomers" while everybody who played fast and loose with the rules before (if there were any to begin with) earned an absolutely massive head start. Of course when there is the threat of competition, now all of a sudden there's an interest in "fairness". It's like changing the rules midway through a poker game only after couple of players have 3/4 of the chips in play.

I haven't been able to watch any games thus far (my kid's bday weekend). I'll watch some replays during the week.

You could have flown him over to Europe and watched the games at the stadium. Two birds, one stone.

You just don't think, do you dumbass!?

Aye, a number of players seemed a bit off it today and the game became a bit disjointed after the first half hour or so. Aberdeen arent total mugs and defended pretty well. Overall a great day tho, the place was packed out, buzzing, beautiful

RIP John 'Yogi' Hughes. Not many lisbon lions left now. And now nobody living can say theyve scored in a European semi final in front of >130,000 home fans.

Everton off to a great start. Dominic Catwalk Lewin injured AGAIN (surprise, surprise) right before the season starts. Did we go get another striker this transfer window? FUCK NO! Did we loan out our two young strikers until the end of the season? Of course we did.

It looks like the human bean bag, Rondon is up front and center once again. How he us still on the roster after last season is anybody's guess but it's shaping up to be another fucked up season.

Aye, looks like he might be available for the second leg which would be a boost for them even if its just as a 60th minute sub

Squeezed by FFP rules. And we're not Man City so we actually have to follow their rules. But we could pick up any club above League One's second best striker and he's guaranteed to be better than that fucking slob, Rondon. Our women's striker is probably better than Rondon.

Opening match is against Chelsea who is way better on paper but couldn't beat us last season. We got a win and a draw from them last season.

I'd try a 4-4-2 & play Gordon up top with either Gray or Iwobi right behind. Maybe even Alli. Anyone but the human bean bag.

Early call: Celtic's best player is Matt O'Riley & he'll end up beating Kieran Tierney out as our biggest ever sale in a year or two. Touch, vision, passing, set piece delivery, strength, pressing/interceptions. He strolls games and bosses every stat metric game after game. Not quite VVD who was just stupidly good, but already approaching the Tierney/Dembele level and still a very inexperienced 21.
