It seems like football is no different in some aspects than the average work place. A good performer would like a raise and is told they're not worth it or it's not in the budget. Employee leaves and the company looks for a replacement. They end up with somebody not as good and to top it off end up usually having to pay even more.

I guess i need an MBA to understand these advanced strategies.

Last night I went out and did a good 6k walk with some jogs thrown in, 50 minutes, lovely.

Went out then tonight and tried to do a sub 30min 5k. Fell short but hey ho. It's on a field mind not the road.

I'm starting to fit into old track pants I use to wear in 2014.... Inch by literal bloody inch.

I don't know I might have been tired but I thought by now I'd have been cracking all sorts of new records. I really felt I went out fast today, had better form. But the computer said no.

I can tell you right now that anyone doing 5k a day has got legit fitness.

When you start running distance, you have to have rest days. You are much better off running 3 x 10k a week than 6 x 5k.

As I anticipated, NUFC tiring second half. It's inevitable at this point. Howe's very high press style works great, but is knackering. At this stage, there is nothing on the bench to come and maintain it past the hour mark. That will come, as signings arrive. Green shoots.

I don't have a decently timed 10k in me. I could do one, but not at 6m 20s per km. Unless I had somebody like you beside me making me....I breathe through my mouth as I'm not fit enough to cope with the nasal route yet.

By 3km my mouth is dry as a Pharaoh's bollox.

I could do a 10k but very slowly, probably 8 mins per km.

Running has the most unreal effect on my midriff. I feel like I've just done a few hundred crunches.

 

Do you think NUFC will look at how things are going in Jan and actually buy someone to fill gaps etc? It infuriates me sometimes, West Ham could quite clearly have made the top 4 last season, they just needed cover in particular areas but they signed nobody in the January window and surprise, surprise they were completely and utterly shot by the business end. Newcastle have a great shout of making top 4 imo, you guys have a very good first XI, as do Spurs and Arsenal. No one has the squad depth of City or Liverpool, so I think for those final 2 spaces it's just about keeping players fit, and strengthening when needed.

 

Honestly, no I don't think so. They aren't at that level yet and they aren't rushing into it. There will be more signings. Same as the last two windows - probably three or four more, gradually replacing the Ashley dross with actual footballers. But there will be no big, unfocused splurge. It's a long game.

This time next year, I expect them to be thinking about a top-6 push.

Very few people in ownership "get" football. There are players out there like Nat Jones Danny Ings etc who were once available for 2,3 million, and signings like that would have pushed clubs like West Ham over the line.

Look at what Ashley did when NUFC went on that run in 2012. Went out and signed a bunch of new players?

Nope. Instead he signed the manager to an 8 year contract so that if/when he got poached, Fat Mike would clean up.

He could have spent and guaranteed continued success. Instead he tried a free strike that might have paid out £20m TO him.

 

Remember what I told you. Incremental improvements. Look to add half a km a week to you distance.
