I don't want to be the celebration police but for fucks sake.....why are the pundits lauding these cunts? What Canada just did is the equivalent of throwing 500 punches, missing with most, walking into a counter and getting sparked out.

They're fit, and full of confidence, they'll try anything but , you know, there are other aspects to the game.

Commentator on the BBC was all "they've run out of legs but they've not run out of luck cos they didn't have any luck"

Sorry mate, they got a VAR penalty and missed it..make your own luck in this racket fella.

Another thing.....this fucking Japan "shock"....bit of a surprise but "SHOCK" , nah no chance. Germany were shit at the Euros and SHITTER in Russia where they didn't even get out their group and lost to South Korea and Mexico and needed a last minute winner to get past Sweden.

Japan have players that are mixing it at fringe-elite level....they gave Belgium a great game 4 years ago too.

Surprised from 1-0 down but no shock.

Yes, the Japanese win is not the greatest shock considering recent record in major championships for both teams, certainly not comparable to Saudi heroics. Having said that, its a pretty mediocre Japanese team, they could blow it by not beating costa rica

The only one I didnt bother to even look at so far was Poland-Mexico, both teams have usually shit the bed, both in terms of results and quality of play, at major championships as long as I have been watching football. Two big footballing countries with rabid fanbases, yet rarely rise to occasion....

Poland have absolutely none of the fluidity of Canada. None. About the only thing they match them in is missing penalties and the same colour tone kit.

Germans never had a decent side till 1954 and the word then was that they used loads of methamphetamine in the final.

Pretty much yeah. Maybe a mild upset, but "shock" is a ridiculous. Calling it that is the media reaction based on trophy history which means little to nothing, especially in a tournament. Not much different than Man United or Barcelona losing and seeing those types of headlines. There's a reason they're in the Europa and not the CL. If gloried history mattered Italy would have qualified and they're the reigning European Champions.

There are some talented players scattered throughout this German squad but no identity. Now they get to play Spain next. Going to be two consecutive WC exits at the group stage. More history.

According to fightbeat's own, Terp, the only reason there are so many Mexican champions is because "Every Mexican who can afford a pair of shorts and a water bottle becomes a boxer."

I'm no respecter of reputations. I think the pundits and experts like to talk about shocks so they can revel in this "we were there" sort of nonsense. It's all about generating excitement or phony hysteria.

Agreed 100% with your description of the German team. Zero collective identity rather just a loose bunch of "names".

For all the stuff they've won they tend to go longish periods where they're not just not winning but they're very average too.

The whole One Love thing is becoming the main story over the actual football. That's how it's feeling when you stick on the radio or TV.

Uh oh. Irish is starting to get his message through. After ten years of railing against the press, the commentators, the woke machine, you've finally done it, Irish!

You have changed one person's mind!

    Just kidding, Jimmy.

I see it as corrupt FIFA awarding this tournament to such a corrupt, undeserving shithole. Now the reaction to that is going to be stronger. Of course none of these countries took the moral stance of boycotting the WC.

If the players, journalists, media, etc, were that passionate about it all then they should have withdrawn from the World Cup in protest. Or the players should have worn the armbands anyway in the first game, accepted a yellow card and got on with the football.

Did De Bruyne get man of the match yesterday? He ran well with the ball but his decision making was poor. Would have probably given it to Courtois.

I saw KDB make one bursting run in the first half....

Kenny Cunningham says Belgium's "legs have gone"....Witsel in particular looked very very poor for a supposed dominant holding mid. Gave away a penalty too or it should have been a penalty at least. Just shoved the bloke over.

Hazard showed no trickery ....I always said these guys are athletes first and once the ability to run hard fades, they fade.

Belgium's best players were the guys getting a foot-or a hand- in around the box and just breaking things up at the final moment. Carrasco and Onana. Atalanta and Everton respectively.

It seems like a World Cup for workers , not Afleets.

Same with Bale. "Scores when he wants to" said Tyldsley. Well yes, from the spot he does, Clive, from the spot.

The team that wins this is the one who can actually play a bit of football and grind it out. I still think Holland and Spain might show something.

To be fair, Hazard has been shit for ages now. Not surprised we didn't see much from him. Bale is a shadow of his former self but still a much more effective player than Hazard at this stage.

Agreed....Hazard shouldn't be out there. Witsels been playing for 16 years. DeBruyne has had serious injuries, water carrying at City, had his face broken by that clown Rudiger, looked jaded.

Wales make use of Bale by having runners, Neco Williams, Dan James or by having big target men to hit like the insufferable Moore.

Belgium simply got overrun by willing
    Canadian runners.

Even Batsuashi....waiting for the ball to come to him in the box. You di t get waiting time at this level. This isn't Norwich.
