Ruud Van Pony Face gets the interim job.

United just keep appointing old boys like Carrick,Giggs,Ole,Ronaldo, and destroying them.

The issue is that they were spoiled with success and now feel because of that name and history they developed a sense of entitlement and because a large portion of the media treat them as "England's team" the attitude persists.

It reminds me of when some drunk celebrity gets pulled over and they act indignantly.

The media do love United. It's great. Their pain is lovely to behold.

Thomas Frank favoured to step in. Bad news. I'd love it if Graham Potter got the job. LOVE IT.

One site I read mentioned Southgate.

Not sure if he'd want to go one pressure cooker to the next though.

Frank should avoid it. He's an excellent manager but he will get shat out the other end of Old Trafford after a year or so completely ruined.

You do not think he can turn it around? Where's the problem at United? Is it right through the club from the fans to the boardroom?

I don't, no. Don't get me wrong, he is a superb manager, but I don't think he has the personality or authority to be heard over the egos in that club. It is obvious to literally everybody that Man U need a complete exodus of playing staff, and big changes in the running of the club. Only a Pep, Klopp, Ancelotti-type manager, or somebody with that kind of stature, is going to have the authority to make those types of changes happen, and obviously none of them are going to take that job any time soon.

    Yeah that is absolute bollocks.

If England had won the Euros and he'd played a big part in it, you could make a case for Bellingham, but Vinicius has been absolutely superb for a good while now.

Another point on this. United are a strange club in a lot of ways. Despite the greatest ever English club debate only ever being about United and Liverpool, their successes are quite different. Whilst United have the most English league titles, they've only ever had three English league title-winning managers. Ferguson, Busby and some other dude way back in the day. Ferguson alone oversaw 13 of them. Liverpool have had success under many more names, and they seem to always be able to right the ship, weather storms and rise up again. It does make me wonder if Man U are a big club who just happened to be lucky enough to have had two ATG coaches who had long reigns, rather than them ACTUALLY being one of the top two clubs in the land, and their current troubles are more reflective of their real standing.

Mel Gibson still has the funniest arrest rant along with the angy rant messages his ex released. That guy was one of the biggest stars in Holllywood. Dude had some major issues.

My favorite part was when he was going off on his ex for dressing like a whore.

"You go out dressed like that and you're gonna get raped by a pack of ni**ers and it's gonna be all your fault!"

You should write for the Athletic or one of those sites. That's a great point, it could just be that United are a strangely unmanageable place, a lot of it stemming from the sheer weight of their own history. Munich and 1968 seem to be dragging them down into we "We MUST be massive" mentality. They're not able to rebuild. Only dominate or fail.

Im gonna be more prosaic and mostly just blame recruitment. Youve got guys like Mount, MacGuire, Anthony & De ligt et al hoovering up 8 figures a year each. Even bruno just seems like a walking attitude problem. They had a higher wagebill than City last year by some reports and the talent level is miles off it

It looks like Rooney might be available soon to throw his hat in the ring for the Manure job (I know they'd never hire him.)

Why? Why are people still hiring this guy as a manager? I said at the end of last season, any club that hires Rooney or Lampard at this point, deserve what they get.

Seems to be some kind of rule. If you are English and were any good at football when you were young you'll always have a job in the business even if you suck at it.

Of all people, Stan Collymore made a really great point about this.

To complete your coaching badges in England, the FA charge an extortionate amount. Obviously for the likes of Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard it is a drop in the ocean, but the same cost applies for everybody. In Spain, Italy etc it is nothing. It's a process too, it takes years to complete. The aforementioned English superstars were getting highly paid job offers on name value alone before they'd completed the course, so they just did what I think most would do in the same situation and took the jobs.

It is absolutely 100% typical of sport in England. The powers that be see an opportunity to make money before they'll ever see an opportunity to develop home grown talent. It doesn't make a fraction of the money football does, but even with padel, clubs are charging stupid money here because they know rich people will pay, where as in Spain and Argentina they charge fuck all and as a result they are a million miles ahead of GB at elite level.

I didn't even know there was a such things as a "coaching badge". So in England is the course(s) like nonsense at your typical workplace with safety and a bunch of HR type bullshit where anybody can pass it, but for the football side of things it's just really expensive to get?

I don't know the ins and outs of it to be fair, but I think you have to complete a certain level to actually be able to get a coaching job, and then you are taught the more nuanced stuff as you go up the levels.
