That shootout was crazy, thought Germany were gonna pull it out of the bag. Feel bad for them, they were absolutely robbed there.

Least nervous i ever have been for a penalty shootout when i'm cheering for a side.

Worst Germany side I think i've seen even when they were without so much supposed talent. I guess they needed even better chances that penalties.

 

I didn't see the second half or extra time but so I'm not sure what you are referring to yet but from everything i've seen at this WC there isn't anything i feel bad about for them.

 

They scored a perfectly good goal in stoppage time, keeper ran into a German player and fell over. VAR overturned it, saying the keeper was blocked. Don't get me wrong, Germany didn't play well at all, but it was an absolute dog shit decision.

 

I missed the game, btw. At football practice (American football) with my kid. Trying to rush home for Netherlands-Morocco.

 

I'm off to bed now, got an early start (less sleep now that went to penalties!), but yeah will check the highlights of Netherlands-Morocco in the morning, should be a good one.

 

Very intense physical game as expected.

I love this ref. Understands the gravity, lets the teams play. Doesn't react every time a player screams or demands a call. Football needs more like that so the players adapt to it instead of always bending the other way.

Congrats to Morocco. They are most likely headed to quarters, but given the upset culture the tournament is taking on, I dont wanna say it with any certainty. They SHOULD beat Canada handily, but we'll see!

Regarding Neil's point above, yes, without a doubt Morocco is the side that played to win throughout. The Dutch were playing not to lose.

Today:

1. Ivory Coast have an excellent chance at pulling an upset, but I think Norway pull it out. Won't be easy though.

2. France should heavily outclass Sweden.

3. Mexico-Ecuador is by far the game of the day! A true 50-50. I'm rooting for Mexico, but my gut tells that Ecuador pulls the upset. Hope I'm wrong.

 

I'm rooting for Mexico as well.

I think Norway are getting a bit overlooked due to the France battering, but they rested their best players, and even then if they'd converted their penalty could well have gotten something out of the game. Ivory Coast are good though, they've grown on me. I just think Norway should have too much firepower with their big guns playing.

Sweden are a weird one, 5-1 win, 1-5 loss, 1-1 draw. France look ridiculous right now though, I think it might get ugly for the Swedes.

 

I would much prefer Norway & Mexico winning.

England-Mexico and Brazil-Norway are a lot more compelling rd of 16 matchups than England-Ecuador and Brazil-Ivory Coast.

 

The Dutch team with Beau Bommell, Dirk Kuyt, Van Persie etc would have smashed it.

"Memphis" and friends suck dick.

 

Early doors, but Ivory Coast are the much better side so far.
