    "what they're doing is unbelievable"

    Apparently 5/1 is "unbelievable"

Excellent set play. Can't see Cape Verde coming back a third time.

Shamrock Rovers might be small time but they're full time. They're a real club who play in a real league and on occasion play against big European sides.

They also play at a different time of the year so their fitness peaks at the onset of the European qualifying. Pico Lopes doesn't have an 80 game season behind him. He's not jaded.

The people who say "this is impossible" or "unbelievable" don't actually follow football. Morons.

Just fwiw Cape Verde didnt win a single game. They drew 3 and lost 1. They scored 4 and conceded 5.

Yes it was a great spectacle. It's always nice to see people who believe in their own talents and act on that belief.

You could see other aspects of their game which is clearly lacking. Long range shooting was broadly pathetic.

Argentinia contributed with some slack play but also attacked the situation and ground it out.

A lot like they did against France 4 years ago where they had it won, lost it, won it, lost it, won it.

Shamrock Rovers going toe to toe with a PSG and missing out 3-2 would absolutely be called "unbelievable", you know it would, and deservedly so. If people were predicting Cape Verde would get through the group, draw with Spain and trouble elite teams like they did before the tournament I must have missed it.

I can't see Argentina retaining their title.

No they maxed out the last time. They really got away with it. They look laboured and tired. They're grinding it out rather than dominating.

It's unlikely. It's a long shot. It's surprising not in its ocurrence as much as its nature.....worldy goals, stunning equalizers. That's shocking. Not an actual 0-0 draw. That happens.... It's a matter of statistical certainty. Switzerland 1 0 Spain in 2010. Senegal 1 0 France 2002. Cameroon 1 0 Argentina 1990. Etc.

We must never be so surprised.

It's not "from the realm of fiction" It's demonstrably possible and the likelihood is narrowing all the time thanks to the nature of modern football and a shrinking globe.

Fwiw psg are better than Argentina and CV are better than Shamrock Rovers PLUS I'd expect a club side to be bang on it during the regular season.

That's not really the comparison I'm making.

Do people think they play wheelchair football at Shamrock Rovers? Or that they play 5 a side or 35 minute halves or don't have a gym and a professional conditioner?

I never would have predicted them get through their group the way they did.

    But 3 points was doable.

And once you're up and running anything is possible.

I'd really like to emphasise that these romantics on the TV are not giving due credit to the importance of attitude, cohesion, rest, and the general professionalism of small teams.

The day of the truly unbelievable stuff is really gone.

All these guys lift weights and pump creatine. The gap is narrowed.

Yeah, maybe they'll build momentum and get better as it goes along, they kinda did that last time, but yeah definitely agreed they are looking a bit laboured.

Winning a game is not "getting away with it" just because you're massive favorite. It has to be earned and they earned the win.

Amazing game. CV deserve all the credit in the world.

I expect Argentina to have a much easier time with Egypt.

    Yeah, not even close.

"Miracle on ice" might be an equivalent.

One fight/match/game has a lot of things happening. Winning over a season takes another level.

I believe they'll still make the final. They wont win, but its not because they're lacking. France is a lot better now than they were in 2022 and even then Argentina BARELY scraped past.

Yes. Leicester basically pulled an upset every weekend. People had time and opportunity to get wise. It's not like Leicester gave them the bums rush and ran off.

Interestingly..... Egypt are a LOT like Argentina. Big names. But they look disjointed and tired.

It's going to come down to the night itself.

Wait, what are were talking about? If France won that game they would have also barely scraped past too.

Only thing that would surpass Leicester winning the Prem would be the USA winning this thing. That would be, far and away, the biggest upset in sporting history. Won't happen, just saying, if it did it would top anything else.

I think Ghana can neutralise Columbia here and get the job done here. I'll go with ice over fire.
