Probably because, like most others here, you dont know about acting.
And you´re viewing The Godafther in such a way because, hey, it´s a guy-movie´.
Its got mobstas in it. And lots of quotable shit.

The truth is, his portryal in that movie is ridiculously sloppy and lazy when compared to his role as Paul in ´Last Tango In Paris´:

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OtuV3Fgmo2c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

That is true acting - letting out the whole range of emotions.
    Fucking insane piece of acting.

And, he conspired with director Bernado Bertolucci to ´rape´ his co-star actress, Maria Schneider.

    Well done, Marlon! :bears:

You're confusing a more volatile, insecure character with better acting

No Im not, Im stating that he got the Oscar for The Godfather because it had a lot to do with his ´comeback´.
He was utterly at ease with himself, a blase lack of concern or artistic integrity.
Brando was an amazing actor when he actually cared or was bothered about the material and tried: with Last Tango In Paris, he had a great script, great Director, and delivered great acting.

More movies better than The Godfather:

    Chinatown
    The Excorcist
    A Clockwork Orange
    Apocalypse Now

Okay, but its still a great movie.

Actually, Id say The Conversation probably edges The Godfather, too.

JFK was a well-made movie even if it really alters facts for entertainment.

He was a little annoying, not too bad for me, but Kate Capshaw was one of the most annoying characters ever.

true, but I think it serves a good purpose- having the pampered, spoiled damsel in distress amplifies how fucked up the situations are....she's a good foil for indy and the setting

I prefer Thin Red Line for re-watchability, but have no problem with anybody who says Saving Private Ryan. They're both great movies.
