Maybe, maybe not. It would be interesting to list the heavyweight title fights since the 80's and see what exactly was televised and how.

I can't think of any 90's heavyweight title fights that weren't televised, but I can think of some that were buried on ppv shows and seen by few.

In the 00's, "a few short years ago" (?), we have Ruiz and Chagaev and the giant and that lineage that wasn't televised in the us.

He's more marketable than those guys were for sure but he doesn't have the kind of talent that will ever take him to that next level. And I say that as the boards most long running admirer of him as a fighter.

Alvarez is a basically star in the same way Gatti was 8-10 years ago - a big ticket seller within a niche market. I personally think the ceiling isn't too far above Alvarez' head.

There's NO Way of ANSWERING or VALIDATING Answers to that Question, Bro...If REED Said 5, You Could Counter w/0, but there'd Be NO Way of PROVING Who's Correct...

There Always HAS & Always WILL BE Talented Prizefighters...Will Some Era's have MORE than Others???...Absolutely...That DOESN'T Mean the Sport is on a Gradual DECLINE though...

Boxing was Supposed to DIE OFF in the Post-Dempsey Era, Post-Joe Louis Era, Post-Marciano Era, Post-Ali Era, Post-Ray Leonard Era & Post-Dela Era...NOW There's People Claiming Boxing will Die Off in the Post-Floyd/Pac Era...

    It's SILLY...

Yeah. If it was just Vitali around I'm sure he'd be more marketable, internationally. Wlad turns people off the 'klitschko brand'.

Well in terms of popularity it probably has been in 'secular' decline through most of that time.

Canelo's a TALENTED Fighter and @ Only 22 he WILL IMPROVE...He's Got 2 Fisted Power, Decent Handspeed, Pretty Good Combination Punching Ability....You Speak as if Canelo's PLATEAUED or Something???....

What Bothers REED the Most about the Opinions of You & C-Doggy Dogg is the LACK of Optimism...Boxing Seems like the Drunk Uncle that ya'll TOLERATE....

    I have eyes, man

It's been declining for years... I'm not basing my opinions off of stats or money or contracts or BoxRec, I'm basing it off of watching hundreds upon hundreds of fights

I don't think it is "dying", but it is in a situation where a transition is slowly taking place... the best fighters of the future in the higher weight classes are going to be coming from America less and less and from other countries more and more... That is still in progress... But there hasn't yet been enough of a supply to offset the decline

You guys can tell yourselves whatever you like or whatever you need to tell yourselves to keep up the appearance of everything being terrific. I'm not going to change your minds about it. There are fewer good fighters now than there were, say 20 years ago. 20 years ago there were fewer than there had been 10 years before that... I think in 20 years (2033) we will be saying there are more great fighters 'now' then there were 20 years ago (2013) ... the dynamics are slowly changing

Canelo is a major box office star despite fighting only one real, prime opponent and just managing to beat him with the help out of outrageous, rigged judging and open scoring that affected his opponent's strategy...

There's nothing remotely remarkable about Canelo as a fighter. Right now, thats enough to get some belts...

Based on the fact he's clearly not as good as Floyd and doesn't have the physical gifts & correctable deficiencies that let Pac improve the way he did. I like Alvarez as a fighter but he's never gonna be on those guy's level.

If you want something I'm optimistic about - the changes in amateur rules are gonna have great effects when they filter back into the pro game. And to be fair - I'm the one guy who said Alvarez was good through the 2, 3 years when everyone was dismissing him as total hype job. I don't think I'm universally negative. I went in for Donaire more than just about anybody, no? And I think Rigondeax is the shit.

    Likewise

And I am optimistic about the future of the sport... The American gap still needs filling but that is a gradual process and in another decade or two, it will be a reality and the sport will once again be high level... There is nothing pessimistic about it

Ironically Hut is kind of a Ginger supporter, he was always telling me Alvarez was good and better than he looks when I kept saying he was scrubby.

He is admittedly better than I thought, but he's never going to be close to Manny and Floyd's level. Even in the Trout fight, he looked better than I gave him credit for, but he didn't exactly look great did he? He's hardly superstar talent. Not sure why he's quite so popular actually, possibly in large part to being a Ginger Mexican.

Well Lewis had his fair share of stinkers, but could really turn it on at times. Wlad is basically the same ever time out regardless of opponent.

Lennox would have thrashed David Haye so badly he probably wouldn't have ever shown his face again in public. He'd have a broken head instead of toe.

Wlad and Lewis are both inherently boring. Even when they're in contests that should objectively be exciting (well, Lewis anyway) or score impressive KOs they're boring. Lewis might have managed a KO against Haye but it'd have been no less fucking boring to witness.

I feel like Lewis would not have treated Jean Marc Mormeck like he was a prime Joe Frazier.

Abso-fucking-lutely. People forget and look back with rose tinted glasses, Lewis had boredom running through his veins. Apart from the few seconds of excitement than might occur when he KO'd someone, his fights were horrendously boring, tedious, and frustrating to watch - not unlike wald pussy.
