Again, you can see what the message here is an absolute mile off. It is not 'war is good':

'A world that works' (kids trying assault rifles out and being given bullets by soldiers); 'A murderer was captured and tried today, sentence, death. Tonight at 6pm, all net, all channels'

    FFS

Total Recall is also obviously excellent. So is Black Book. Not a huge fan of the other Verhoven films.

Agreed, though I was very young when I saw Starship troopers, I don't see how it can interpreted as anti war of even a satire on fascism. Plus, I always thought it was based on 40K, not some old fart novel

    The Genius DEMONRY!!

I agree and that's my point. Hidden in plain sight is a stretch. I thought the film was downright hamfisted with it. I guess it was effective in its way.

I still enjoyed the film however and think it's worth watching. I haven't read the book it's loosely based on. Anyone read it? Is it worth a read?

It is a scifi classic that won the Hugo Award as the best Scifi novel in 1960. It has more socio-political discussions (mainly in classrooms) than the film and the main theme is individual sacrifice for the betterment of society. It is worth reading, aye.

Starship Troopers is one of the greatest sci fi movies ever. It is a cult classic now.
