Wrong. He lost because the first two rounds Masvidal beat the piss out of him standing up. The last round Masvidal played it smart and won. Should he have stood and banged with him? Maybe, to please us and the crowd. But any smart MMA fighter would tell you he took the correct strategy going into the third round up two rounds to zero.

You are wrong. He lost the first round with standup, but the second round, Noons came out strong and was actually winning in the standup until he was taken down. From this point on, Masvidal was unwilling to stand with noons. From the last 3 minutes of the second round until the end, noons was the aggressor in the standup and masvidal decided the ground game was safer.

I completely disagree and so do the judges who all scored it 30-27 for Masvidal. Masvidal landed the better shots as well as knees even in round 2. Noons came out strong and got his face busted up.

Yes, however, you said he was beaten at his own game. my point is that despite the cut losing the first round in a standup battle, Noons was still game and wanted to trade with Masvidal. But for some reason, masvidal wanted no part of it and took Noons down. The exact thing he said noons would do. Prior to the fight, masvidal said he would trade with Noons all night long and that noons would be so scared, he he would take him down. But it was the complete opposite.

I guess we just saw it differently. I saw Masvidal out box, out wrestle and beat the fuck out of Noons for 3 rounds. Must have watched different fights. Love ya GF.

Overeem didn't look good, but he couldn't strike with Werdum at all because anytime he landed a punch Werdum flopped to the floor.

I always antagonize people who say they should bring back the PRIDE yellow card, but THIS was a fight where it would've been appropriate. In fact, Werdum should've had a point deducted for blatantly stalling in the 2nd round and not standing to his feet in a timely manner. That was absurd and a black eye to the sport.

I'm quick to criticize fighters, but I can't even blame Overeem for not scoring a knockout against a fighter who was deliberately being non-combative and stalling by laying on the ground and taking 20 seconds to stand up when the ref declared a stand up.

I don't recall how the yellow card worked in Pride. Was it second yellow a disqualification like soccer, or did a yellow also affect the scoring?

Noons was beaten in the stand up easily by Masvidal in every round. Noons didn't win the stand up alone in any round. But Noons is a tough mother fucker. If the older Overeem had 1/10 the balls of Noons, he'd be pretty good.

PM me Jarhead.. Let the games begin!!!

Werdum is an embarrassment. Plain and simple. Overeem looked like shit, but Werdum was just scared shitless.

For all the Predicition Contest participants, just for the record, the Chad Griggs win was changed to a submission due to strikes. Ouch!!

i thought this match was really pathetic. Overeem is a crap fighter from what I saw (first time). Werdum's tactics were disgraceful as well. I have heard of trying to get the fight to go to ground but this was over the top. And Overeem if he had any skill should have been able to control the fight with his striking at a distance. All he needed was a decent jab. I can't believe he kept going for those knees on the inside. Worst part is that Werdum actually got the better of the striking. Blah.

faggots like werdum is a reason they should legalize kicking a guy who is on the ground

Werdum basically gave the fight away, too much flopping around on the ground. He should have just kept it standing and knocked Overeem out. A couple times I thought Overeem was ready to go. Good thing for Overeem he's not fighting Sergei, he would get his ass knocked out again.

I'm definitely taking Bigfoot to stop Overeem.

I agree. Funny, but going into the tournament I would have picked Overeem to win the whole thing. Now, I would pick him to lose against any of the other 3 guys still alive.

By the way, Barnett is clearly the guy to beat now. I hate him with a passion because I would bet my house that he would have failed a piss test Saturday night. But, that being said, he has the best skill set left in the tournament. Good chin, adequate stand up, great wrestling, great top control, great subs.

    Too bad he's a douche.

he had minor success when he was on the offense, but when he got tagged, he went down immediately. he knew he couldnt stand and trade.

silva might beat overeem, but let's not go overboard here. he's the guy who got outgrappled by werdum and also got nearly KOed by a light heavy.

sergei is shot and happened to beat a guy w/ no chin and was more shot himself. barnett's going to beat him easily.

Exactly. It's funny as hell to me, and this might be a blessing in disguise. Although it didn't make for an enjoyable night of fights, the line for Overeem vs Bigfoot will be inflated by dumbasses picking Bigfoot based on their last fights.

btw, i read that overeem and sergei are actually on the same team. i guess that was after they split two fights.

i think overeem beats him rather easily. i'd be really suprised if kharitanov beat barnett.

The thing that diminishes Overeem in my eyes is how exhausted he looked in a relatively easy fight.

By the way, Mike Kyle hurt Silva badly without question. But Mike Kyle spent the majority of his career fighting at HW. The guy has had 3 or 4 fights at LH in his entire 28 fight, 10-year career yet people call him a light heavy.

Not matter where he spent his last few fights, Kyle was as much a HW in his fight with Silva as anyone.

Is someone actually claiming that MMA is street fighting? Is it the UFC that said this? Strikeforce? Dream?

What organization says MMA is street fighting?

Nope. Golden Glory guys fight each other. They are kind of a throwback to Chuteboxe where they KO each other in sparring.

Alistair fought Gohkan Saki too when he won the Grand Prix.

Just because he fought at HW doesn't make him a HW. He's not a big guy. Especially comparatively speaking....Silva fought most of his early fights at Super Heavyweight.

Let me put this in easier terms. If Randy Couture hurt Silva with a punch, would we be saying that Silva almost got knocked out by a Light heavy? No, because Couture was also a legit HW during his career.

Kyle is even more legit because the overwhelming bulk of his career has been at HW. Hell, the dude is 6'3" and I think he weighed 240 for his WEC title fight.

Please, Kyle is, was, and will always be a legit HW when he fights in that division.
