I don't like Ray Leonard at all, but I have much respect for him as a fighter.

As talented and skilled as he was, he was a true fighter, with a set of balls, unlike Flid.

i've always maintained...if Leonard were around...DLH, Mosley, Forrest, Trinidad and Mayweather Jr. would have been no more than guys he beat.

And the difference between Ray and Floyd...Ray would have fought ALL of them.

Sadly....all of the guys minus Floyd would have taken any mixture of fights without hesitation.

I love watching that SRL vs MW fight...MW Sr. is competitive early doors without loking dangerous, but then one or two rounds before the end SRL just moves up two gears and starts to just batter him with ridiculously fast matrix-like (the movie, not dirrell) combos

I think Maxboxing had an interview with him before the Mosley-Mayweather fight and Leonard spoke with of Mayweather Sr. Said he was slick and a little difficult to hit but had no power.

Ray leonard gets my vote the the greatest ever p4p.

Leonard may seem to nice and preppy for some people who want boxers to be rough "king of the bars" type of guys but Leonard's skills in his prime were on a different level then even Myaweather in my opinion.

This is just an opinion.

Oh, yes he did.

I boxed on the amateur portion of the card before the Leonard bout at the Summit when Floyd Sr. defeated Art McKnight, another guy that gave Leonard trouble, but Floyd had a tendency to slap with his punches at times, and was not a hard hitter.

Floyd was as loose and as sharp as he would ever get, and looked really well in whipping McKnight, a guy that could really slip shots well.

We spoke before and after the fight, and he and his corner really felt that he was going to defeat Ray, and Floyd was in tip top shape.

He gave Ray a lot of trouble in the first half of the fight, and it was a very hard fought affair.

Ray wiped him out at the end, but Floyd was a good and game fighter who many of the top welterweights at the time avoided, and Howard Cosell wrote of the Leonard-Mayweather fight in his second autobiography as being Ray's toughest bout before he won the title.

 

Yeah...being unbeaten suddenly doesn't mean anything.

It's not as though Floyd is 10-0 unbeaten.
It's not as though he's 30-0 unbeaten but hasn't fought for a title.
It's not as though Floyd is 40-0 unbeaten and has only fought in 1 weight class.


Floyd is 41-0 with titles in 6 divisions and has fought De La Hoya, Judah, Mosely, Gatti, Corrales, Castillo, Hernandez among others.

What..a fighter should now be PENALIZED for never having lost? ::

Yes. He should. When it's his claim to fame, and there's a list of top fighters he's managed not to face.
