"He was the third son of James Kelly, a phonograph salesman, and Harriet Curran, who were both children of Irish Roman Catholic immigrants." I think you're referring to Micky Ward?.. :scratcher:
Harriet's father was a Scotsman who emigrated to Derry and then to New York... her mother was a an American of German descent named "Eckhart" This would make Gene Kelly, at best, half Irish, 1/4 Scot, 1/4 German if we are going by your strict criteria
http://pastprologue.wordpress.com/2010/09/03/climbing-up-gene-kelly’s-family-tree/ it is POSSIBLE that Harriet's father was famine Irish settled in Soctland before his returning to Northern Ireland... BUT that still would make Kelly 75%, not 100
issed: Fucken Germans ruin everything dont they,... Alright then,.. Donald O'Connor it is,.. :crafty: An ace up the sleeve..
Ok so Eckhart is one paternal surname, but what about the halves in those relationships?,.. The German juice may have dribbled down the inner thigh and dried up into crust if it's just a mere 16th into the barrel. He could still be one hundred percent black-Irish you know :Rubio: , and Donald O'connor need never enter into this desperation.
Gene Kelly is no more Irish than I am... with my potentially 1/4 100s of years old English Catholic strains out of the Dublin area:bears:
Well you know, furthermore,... I dont know how accurate this is anyway, because Scotland seems to be well off the hook, and I dont think that's true.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2011/oct/19/viking-burial-ship-found-scotland?newsfeed=true this recent bit of news seems to corroborate that idea
120-1-2 at one point in his career with titles at 147 & 160, add 154 in there if he had been given the option. the one loss avenged 5 times, the last by brutal slaughter, and the two draws both avenged as well, i believe by ko
I think he could have taken Hopkins at 160. All he would have to do is make Bernard lead, then chew the shit out of him with counters, turn it into his own attack, then chew that fucker up some more, then back off, let Bernard do some complaining, wash, rinse, repeat. Over 15 rounds he'd make him quit.
One of many posts you make which betray how new you are to the sport. You clearly have never seen a prime B-Hop fight. NB I don't say that based on your picking SRR, but based on your characterization of him and his style in said matchup.
I didn't characterize him or his style. I just summarized what I felt he would need to do to make the fight as easy as possible. Ray, I am talking about. As for Hopkins, in his so-called-prime, he hated guys who were as big as he was who could physically impose themselves, a la the broadly talentless ,but very big and very strong, Jermaine Taylor. Taylor couldn't beat anyone else, but he was too straight and strong for Hopkins. Echols, Trinidad, Keith Holmes....were all made for Bernard. Not Taylor. Ray can't match Taylor for bone and brawn. So he'd have to try something different.
Now, as I was saying, before I was banned for like 11 hours {surely the most impotent act in the history of Fightbeat, but anyways.....} Hopkins used the expression in 2000 that he had, in his own words, "got dust on me like Grandmas peaches int he cellar. I been preserved". If I recall, that interview was in KO magazine. Hopkins made the cover, Klitschkos made the magazine. I know this cos I used to buy the magazines because I really like boxing. NOW...if a 46 year old Hopkins can hack it up in Canada in 2010/2011, then I reckons he must have been going pretty strong when he fought Taylor. He must still have had some stones left in them peaches. Truth of the matter is that Bernard HATES fighting guys who are stronger than him. Taylor had that rawboned country strength, it wasn't washed out of him by MTV commercials and street corners. He was a big old athletic dude, couldn't fight a lick, had trouble with Stinks and Stinky but was able to get the better of Bernard. Bernard hates sinew. He prefers people he can push around. I can't see Ray Robinson pushing him around. Ray will need his counters for this one. Hopkins loves the pot-shot, the sneak punch, and Ray will do well to deny him those chances.
