Hope he turns it around, but if I were a betting man, I would say Teo ultimately ends up a cautionary tale.
Holmes is a good business man. He's financially stable even now. His only downfall was getting fucked by King.
Nah....that's something Holmes said about Leon Spinks. "I always knew he'd end up driving a Cadillac with 3 dollars in his pocket and cornflakes for brains"
My favourite insult towards Spinks was something Eddie Lopez said before they fought "I'll knock him cross eyed and toothless"
Funny too cos Lopez seemed very very happy with the draw result. Different era. Tonnes of punches being thrown.
The betting ticket shown is -240 by ko. That certainly wasn't the odds on Romero. Probably Lopez bet himself by ko vs kambosos
It Always Amused REED How Some Saw That as "Journalism", Especially When it Came to Larry Merchant's Bitch Ass..."Being Honest", "Telling it Like it IS"...No, Merchant was Being an ASSHOLE, Just like Jim Gray... REED
Quality Showing By Both... Tank Added to His KO Legacy, Impressively, and Even Though Rolly LOST, He WON in a Sense...Going into Round 6, it was Still ANYBODY'S Fight;Rolly Acquitted Himself Well and Has Earned Bigger Dates Down the Road... Tank Had to Be RESPECTFUL of Rolly's Strength, Aggression, Underrated Handspeed, Power and Unpredictability...Nonetheless, Tank STILL Knocked Him the Fuck Out...If Not for the Ropes, Rolly Would've Fallen Face 1st After That Counter Left... Money WELL Spent...Tank Davis is Pretty Much "Must See" Boxing TV, Right Now...27-0, 25 KO's.... REED
The only quality thing about the whole fight was the knockout. Neither did anything much, but Rolly did slightly more than Tank. Very reminiscent of Washington vs Wilder. Tank dozed off for five rounds, woke up and put Rolly to sleep.
Not every fight has to be elite level skill to be enjoyed. Violence sells. Tyson never looked particular pretty and even when he was getting outboxed you knew the knockout power was always there to bail him out. Part of Tyson's appeal was his excitement and unpredictability. And Tank to a lesser Degree (obviously I'm no comparing a scrub like Tank to an atg) has that. And his fights generate a buzz that's good for boxing.
Saying Davis dozed off is intentionally trying to avoid giving any credit to Romero. Davis struggled for the first five rounds because Rolly was doing a solid job of using controlled aggression and judging distance. The MOMENT he made a mistake, and used reckless aggression, the fight was over. It had nothing to do with Tank "waking up". Rolly made a fatal mistake.
This wasn't even violent. It was a two guys doing nothing until the better of the two knocked the other out. It was a mismatch. And a boring one.
Gotta say I'm kind of agreeing with George here (though I wouldn'tcall it a mismatch). I dont feel it was quality or even really exciting up to the ko. Was mostly nervous energy and Romero physically imposing himself on Tank (or at least trying to). It was quite ugly to be honest... Still, people will remember the ko and I doubt most casuals would complain about these kind of fights. Tank definitely got legit fight ending power. Him vs Teofimo would be crazy fun
I’ve seen that and I wonder why they include a bet ticket that clearly has nothing to do with the Tank-Rolly match…
If Rolly's a bum, then a bum got the better of Tank for 5 rounds. It wasn't the one sided wipe out you predicted it to be. Overall, the fight was good for the sport. The KO was the headline of every major sports platform over here. Casuals will only remember the KO.
A bum threw more punches than Tank. He didn't get the better of him. And it wasn't the one sided wipe out because Tank didn't pressure him. Tank still knocked him the fuck out.
It was a better fight than expected but also ended the way we all knew it would. Rolly was doing more “work” than Tank but I really think it had more to do with Tank taking his time and waiting for the perfect counter opportunity, which he took full advantage of when that happened. As much as we all make fun of Rolly I wouldn’t mind seeing him fight again with other world class fighters. Seems like a Mayorga type fighter, which is what boxing needs.
