    way, way better

It's by far the best of the films... T2 was fun but nowhere near as substantial and frightening as the original

The third one was embarrassing ... Beyond that, I've seen no reason to bother

Just watched this. It as actually not bad. Kept me interested. I enjoyed how they explained the story. Dont really get the bad reviews. Clearly not as good as the first 2, but i think it actually is a pretty decent sequel.

The more i think about it the more i actually like the film.

Basically the movie goes like this.

We are now at the point where John and the humans are close to taking out Skynet. They are have a huge mission coming up where have a chance to destroy Skynet's central Core.
While that is happening John and Kyle are on a separate mission to take out Skynet's most dangerous weapon. The time Travel machine that will send the original Terminator back to 1984.

John and Kyle fight their way to the Time Travel machine and finally get there just as Skynet's core has been destroyed. The Humans have won. The Machines have fallen. However, John and Kyle were too late. And Skynet deployed their weapon prior to being defeated.

So now John knows he has to send kyle to use the machine and basically start the process in which he was born to prevent. Kyle is in the machine getting ready to go back just like in 1984, except, right before Kyle travelers, a machine attacks John from behind and then Kyle vanishes. Kyle is expecting to go back to a 1984 that john described. Instead, due to what happened prior to kyle leaving. He is in a world where Sarah is prepared with the t800 fighting t1000s. Kyle doesnt know he is john's father, but eventually finds out.

John, Sarah, Arnold & Kyle all end up together at some point in the movie, but that's when the shit get's interesting IMO.

I dont want to give away too much. everything i told you is in the first part.

I recommend watching this movie and just using your own thoughts. Think of it as a sequel after t2.

If you dont like it, oh well. I thought it was fun.

The problem with the franchise, after the original, is the fact that they kept Arnie. Trying to fit Arnie into the sequels is what was the problem. I guess they felt that only Arnie would sell the films, but I disagree.

the computer generated cameo was the way to do if they had to. But you're right - they didn't. He shouldnt even have been in the 2nd one, strictly.....such a far fetched plot contrivance, it really made no sense.

He did fine. They explained the aging. In this particular movie, because of what happened to John before reese time traveled everything change. Arnold has now actually been with Sarah since she was 7 years old when a terminator killed her parents. They describe the skin aging and white hair. Basically it's human skin, so it ages and grows like real skin. There are even parts with him having issues with his hands because his parts are so old. The competition between him and reese is pretty enjoyable IMO.

But he still kicks fucking ass.

I can't believe you actually found this turkey enjoyable. This is the worst Terminator film ever. Heck, even 'Terminator Salvation' got better reviews than this one which was crowned with 26% rotten at rottentomatoes!

The audience numbers that liked it more in rottentomatoes is dramatically lower than those from "Salvation" in other words: mostly hardcore fans watched it and like it.

User ratings: 71,429 Terminator Genisys average: 3.5/5

User ratings: 883, 172 Terminator Salvation average: 3.3/5

One came out a few weeks ago and one came out 6 years ago. Of course there will be more.

Like i said, i thought it was enjoyable. I dont let society dictate what is good or what isnt. This movie was fun and a proper sequel

To each his own. For my part I'm done with this franchise unless James Cameron comes back on director duties, the story is 100% original and no more f@cking geriatric Arnold.

which is why you didnt like the movie. You have given up on the franchise already so you didnt even want to like this movie, despite it being decent. This review is spot on regarding people like you. Now you are waaaay to stubborn to admit it, but it's the truth.

Critics simply don't want to give Genisys a chance and here's why, they're tired of Terminator. 3 & 4 were terrible and when you try something that many times without succeeding no one wants to see you try again, even if you finally pull it off.

I have never been a Terminator fan myself but as a SciFi buff who grew up in the 90's I knew of the franchise fairly well. This film in a lot of ways, was the sequel I always wanted but never knew to ask for.

Genisys takes everything that was good about 1&2 and creates a narrative that not only adds on to the original story but does so without butchering the source material.

The leads are likeable and there's a degree of charm and wit in the script that previous installments of the film never had. The action set pieces are great without drowning the story, it builds characters and relationships. Overall, it's an entertaining watch with a very solid foundation.

Obviously Terminator 5 was a bad idea, but when you take a bad idea and make something good out of it... I respect that. I'm sure if Kyle Reese was played by Chris Pratt critics would have very likely seen this as another reboot success or if they had a monopoly on Dinosaurs and weren't just another Sci Fi (Cough Jurassic World Cough)

Or if the film made Kyle a complete support character, rather than sharing the spotlight with Sarah. God knows action films are constantly begging for a strong female lead, why not give it to them?

When I said I'm done with this franchise it was after watching this film. I did like T3: Rise of The Machines even though it was inferior to T1 & T2. And I even liked Terminator Salvation as weak as it was since it finally took the plot turn I wanted to see (no more time travelling, watching the future conflict of men against machine, Bale was the best John Connor, no Arnold...well, only a cgi cameo). I was curious of what could they do with T5, but the trailer showed what a convoluted mess was going to be and worst of all gave away the only surprise the film was going to have.

Funny thing about a message board is you cant ignore your history. This here proves you were done prior to the movie coming out. The fact that you watched it means nothing. You were still prepared to hate and give it no chance whatsoever.

This is my quote after you stated 'everybody in this thread will be watching this film' or something like that:

Panchy: "Wrong. I have no plans to go to the movies to watch it nor to rent this film on Redbox. Maybe I'll do it when is available on free streaming if I am too bored."

The trailer made it look like a turkey and that was a big turn-off (it actually was a turkey). Like the guys in video I posted before said, the whole thing felt like a fan film, very amateurish, copying stuff from the first two film, two dimensional characters with bland portrayals, the timeline was f@cked up for no other logical reason, but to make sequels that can continue copying the others, the plot has so many plot holes and contradictions that critics had a field day trashing it, making mankind's saviour (John Connor) into another stupid terminator was the worst idea anyone ever had for a franchise like this, and speaking of Connor-Terminator: why he didn't just kill Sarah Connor when she & Reese thought he was the real one? why he waited sooooo loooooooong to attempt to do that??? I could go on and on, but honestly the less said the better.

But there is still hope: I read somewhere that in 2019 the rights will revert back to James Cameron. If he decides to do something innovative with this moribund franchise I might be curious.

Dude you gave up on the movie before it came out as indicated by YOU.

I dont care what those fools say. And James Cameron agrees with me. This was a solid sequel.

You're wrong. As is James Cameron.
Amd it don't matter what hes fucking done in the movie-industry either - this film was fucking awful.
A movie so engrossed in it's self-awareness (a bit like SkyNet, eh, Anthony?), and in-jokes.
"Let's make John Connor the ULTIMATE Terminator!!"
    What a piece of shit.

Terminator: Salvation nuts all over this...

Here is his quote. Not quite the ringing endorsement he gave this one.

“It probably didn’t get a fair day in court because I had to watch it at night when I got home from work, over a period of two or three nights. I think Sam [Worthington] is remarkable in the film because, well, I think Sam is remarkable in anything he does. Interestingly, I think McG did a good job in the sense…I think he was almost too referential to the mythos of the first and second film. He over-quoted them in a way?”

“It didn’t feel to me to be enough of a reinvention. I mean the thing we did with the second film is that we reinvented the first film completely; spun it on its ass and made the Terminator the good guy, and came up with a whole new concept for a villain, it felt fresh. I didn’t feel the fourth picture was fresh enough. It also lacked a certain stamp of authenticity because Arnold wasn’t in it. I mean, he was in it briefly, digitally, but that’s not the same thing.”
“I didn’t think it was bad. I didn’t think it was embarrassing. I don’t think he let the franchise down in some huge way, but I did feel some sort of unease that it didn’t go beyond.”

    I'm glad you liked it.
I wanted to like it like many others, but then my like can be 'muddied' somewhat when a movie just goes through a motion for no reason.

Like I said, the opening 'fanboy' nods were quite cool as is the T100 self-awareness of 'getting old'...which sees you through to about 20-30 mins...and then it drops badly into a sequence of endless action bang/crash/boom/smash scenes.
(and ones where the CGI isn't any more impressive than it was in 1992's 'Terminator: Judgement Day'.)

Everything 'interesting' this movie has to show....is over and done with in 1/2hr.
Other than that, it's like a 'SNL' skit of 'What Would Happen if Old T100 Met New T100...And Sarah Connor Referred To Him As 'Pops' "

'Terminator Genisys' - nothing you need and a lot you don't want.

    Like I said before...

They killed the franchise with T2

The second terminator film should have been a prequel/sequel showing the moment skynet got smart, the nuclear attack, the war and ended with John Connor sending Reese back into the past.

In the first film they said that only two people made it through teh time displacement equipment: the Terminator and then Reese. After that they blew up the place. There was no room for Arnie being sent back time and time again. They killed it with the second film.

    That's pretty much it.
'Terminator: Judgement Day' did to 'The Terminator' what 'Aliens' did to 'Alien': it creates a franchise which ultimately kills the whole story.
