The scary thing IS...Hatton fought EXACTLY the type of fight he needed to fight to beat Floyd (agression, activity) and STILL LOST!:eeeek: How does one beat this man?
He is a huge 147lber. Has great hand speed, good movement, insane stamina. Remember Zab was doing good early then faded Williams wouldn't fade. Honestly if Floyd fights Williams and wins ill call him the GOAT myself.
:bears::bears::bears: More and more, people are seeing the light. You need someone who can be at a distance but still be a volume puncher, who WON'T get too focused on a power struggle (seriously, just because someone is a boxer, that doesn't mean you can't win a boxing match with them sometimes), and can throw any punch at any angle (yup, even 'dumb' punches can hit the mark, just ask RJJ when Tarver clocked him with his head friggin ducked down). Paul Williams is that kind of fighter (wait, that makes it sound like I'm saying he's a dumb luck fighter. he's not. he's good. I'm trying to hard...darn) Either that, or he ends up looking like Phillip Ndou/Diego Corrales :dunno: PW BANDWAGON IN FULL EFECT! JOIN TODAY!!! :cheer:
My only doubt is whether Williams is a big enough puncher to beat Floyd. All the other tools make him the perfect fighter to beat Floyd.
Honestly people don't give Floyd enough credit for his mental and physical tougness. He also has a very underated chin. I don't think anybody from 154 down can KO Floyd with 1 shot or an accumalation.
Yes, THIS. Much better than what I was trying to say. ONCE AGAIN, ALL ABOARD THE "MAYWEATHER vs WILLIAMS MUST HAPPEN!" BANDWAGON...whenever Floyd feels like fighting again...prima donna douche
Zab is faster than Williams and hits harder. Williams has every other advantage though. Still... remember that Although williams is very tall, a good boxer, southaw and throws a hell of alot of punches...he'll still have great difficulty hitting mayweather...and fights are not one by activity alone...you have to connect with meaningful punches. Floyd's connect percentage would still be higher..
:: get the fuck out of here....it's like Williams is OVERATED and UNDERATED at the same time...he might rematch Margarito and lose...:dunno:
I have to admit I was screaming at the top of my lungs when Floyd knocked Hatton down! :: I haven't been that vocal at a fight since the 2nd round of Taylor-Pavlik.
Great performance by Mayweather tonight. Those who said that Hatton could not be stopped by Floyd were failing to take into account the fact that when Hatton starts to tire, he walks straight in. Combined with Floyd's accuracy, it had the makings of a late stoppage. Tacticly, I thought Hatton did the right thing. And if he had better punching power, he could have made things tougher for Mayweather. Had they fought 2 years ago at 140, perhaps it could have been different. But at 147, I would expect this outcome 10 times out of 10. Hatton didn't do enough early to slow Mayweather down. For my money, the sign of Mayweather's brilliance was the way he positioned his body when they fought in close. PBF turned at a 90 degree angle and easily took away the opportunity for Hatton to land the left hook downstairs. It was apparent to me that team Mayweather saw the devestating body shots that Hatton landed against JLC and made defending those shots the focal point of their gameplan. I cannot recall one single left hook to the body that Hatton landed in the fight. And without it, he couldn't wear PBF down like he needed to.
How so? Floyd was still in his prime in 05. At this point IMO he's slightly past it. A few years back he was quicker on his feet, and had a higher workrate. If Hatton had fought the PBF that tortured Gatti at 140 it woulda been an even MORE one sided fight IMO.
The PBF that fought Corley could certainly be beaten by Hatton at 140. Say what you like about Floyd starting his career smaller than Hatton, he was CLEARLY the larger man in the ring tonight. Hatton has looked outgunned in his two fights at 147. He's much more comfortable at Jr. Welterweight. Its not as much about PBF being worse at 140, its about Hatton being his best at that weight. And PBF would never look as good against Hatton as he did against Gatti. There's not much of a comparion there.
Yes he is. His physical prime anyway. Theres no way he's as quick now as he was when he was 22-25. SKILL wise however he's still at the top of his game, but physically he's slippped a bit IMO.
Certainly. He definitely didn't look as quick in this fight as he did say 2 years ago. But he's still murderously accurate and that's what makes him great.
Hatton would NEVER EVER beat Floyd! He might have given the Floyd that fought Corley more trouble than he gave him tonight, but he CERTAINLY would not have beaten him.
I didn't say he would beat him. I say PBF would win in a similar fashion 10 times out of 10 at 147, and that Hatton would have a better shot had they met at 140. In no way I am saying that Hatton would beat him. But he isn't a Welterweight, that much we know for sure. At 140, he'd have a much better shot.
how would hatton have had a better chance at 140? floyd isnt really a welterweight either :dunno: he walks around at 147 what would change?
What would change is that Hatton would be at his best weight. Is Hatton a better Jr. Welter or Welterweight? It stands to reason that if Hatton was going to have shot, it would be at his best weight. Would he lose? Almost certainly!
