Maybe the meaning's slightly different there, I think the American equivalent to how its used here would be 'the middle class'.....something everyone's meant to identify with that sidesteps the existence of class. Mitt Romney's kids, Cletus in the Detroit trailer park - middle class; the city trader, wee Aggie the cleaner - part of 'hard working families'. As opposed to 'Working people' which was far too redolent of 'worker' or, god forbid, 'working class'.

Yep. Detroit is a toilet that no place I'm aware of has an equivalent to in western Europe. Poor/violent areas in Canada exist too, but not comparable. There's not really a such thing as a "ghetto" in Canada.

 

Plenty people living in trailers in Detroit to my understanding. I heard one of them is called Cletus!

 

Detroit, like all American former industrial cities is rapidly developing a vanilla, hipster center surrounded by unwelcome chocolate... No working class or poor need apply... Stay on the outskirts where you belong and die
