Yeah I remember really following the other European leagues really closely around the turn of the century on Eurosport (because I had no job and lived like a bum for a bit), and Boavista became the team I rooted for in Portugal. It was only a few years afterwards where I realised how big an achievement it was for them to break the triopoly. People talk about Scotland's lack of competitiveness but historically FAR more teams have won the league than a lot of other European nations (surprisingly the Dutch league is included in that). Out of curiosity, was the other team to win it Braga? Can't be arsed to look it up.

Eredivisie is historically an odd league... It's had several really remarkable, world-class clubs... Ajax, especially but it's never been a great league overall... Plenty of minnows... Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV have won the majority of the honors in that league and its honors in Europe

With the best Dutch players nowadays merely using those clubs as a stepping-stone to the money teams of Spain and England and Germany, it no longer can produce anything like the Ajax sides of the 70s and 90s... Imagine a starting 11 like Ajax's from 1972 or so except with equivalent modern players? Wouldn't be able to keep it together a year in this era... Cruyff would be sold to Barcelona for 110 Million, Neeskens would be snagged by Citeh or Bayern for 70 million, etc. ... Whole club would be picked apart

I figured Porto to win but not by that margin... I figured Roma/CSKA would be a competitive match

5-0 at this level is not common

I had to look at who you were talking about. Schalke tied it up. Very surprising to me, i thought Chelsea were going to tear them to pieces.

Game is not over, but a route would seem to be out of the question at this point.

City have been really uninspiring. Clearly they set out to play for a draw. Because of that it wouldn't shock me if Aguero subs on and grabs a late winner.

Boateng finally gets one for Bayern in the back of the net. Well deserved for him. He earned the corner right before as well.

We came so close to pissing on that parade on the final day in 2012. Probably would have been the greatest win in Premier League history if we'd managed to hold on.
