I think you are now the one talking about best looking fighter instead of the best. IMHO it should not matter hw quickly somebody defeats his opponents or what style he uses. But as Reed said, no wrong answers here

I think these types of examples illustrate my point about Roy.

Look, his talent is unquestionable. But his career reads as a "never tested" manual.

    1) His two best wins came against guys who were completely made to order. Hopkins losses/struggles have always been to faster/bigger guys. James Toney's losses/bad performances come against movers who do not engage in his infighting.

    2) Roy flat out doesn't like to fight. The McClellan ordeal certainly affected him for the worse in terms of his approach to boxing.

    3) In against people a fighter of his talent should've waxed, he fought safety first and was content to continue this way to keep from the chance of being caught. Its a weakness that would get him into trouble against people who could come close to him in skill, another thing that keeps me from calling him best ever.

    Whatever, Dude...

MOST of Duran's Fights went into the LATTER Rounds & Contrary to Popular Belief he DIDN'T Fight ALL ELITE Guys...Ditto for Ray Robinson...

BREVITY of a Fight ISN'T a Factor N Determining who the BEST is, it's just an EXCUSE for Haters like YOU to Denigrate GREAT Fighters...

    Roy Jones.

I was completely impressed by him the first time I saw him fight. Every punch was a blur, reflexes were unbeliveable and he instantly became my favorite fighter. Even when he said he'd like to fight Tyson I remember coming away thinking he could possibly beat him.

However I have to agree with Jaws. Watching Jones consistently safely pot shot overmatched fighters for 12 rds got quite boring and frustrating as did his penchant for not delivering on some of the bigger fights he kept promising were right around the corner. This is when he ceased to be my favorite fighter opening up a slot that Mosley fell into.

Here's the worst thing about Jones. Back in the day he'd consistently excuse his safety first apporach with the reasoning that he didn't want to wind up like his friend McClellan with brain damage and how he would be retired before the age of 30. Yet, look at Roy, still hanging around and trying to recapture his glory days just like all the other boxers tend to do. So if he's going to sit around and do that, why the fuck did he waste his prime and youth being a safety first guy for nothing? :dunno:

What a fucking waste. Sorry Reed, but that was how I saw it.

Prime, pre-Rosario, Hector "Macho" Camacho. Even Sugar Ray Leonard as a commentator at the time expressed admiration for the Macho Man. Of course Rosario ruined everything and Hector turned into the role model for Roy Jones in the safety-first department.:crying::boohoo:

    1. So your blaming Roy for being too good against hops and Toney.

    2. OK

    3. Again your blaming Roy for being dominant.

Your critisism has no logic at all man.

whats sad is jones could've ko'd 99% of the fighters hes ever faced in his prime within the first 4 rounds. I can honestly see Hopkins or possibly Toney, being the only 2 fighters lasting the full 12 rounds against a Jones adamant to knock them out (did Toney last the distance against roy? I cant remember, lol). if jones lost early in his career we would've seen him destroy ottke, nigel benn, eubank, calzaghe and michalewski because he'd have a lot to prove to his fans like he does now.

It's a slam dunk as far as I am concerned, "The Brown Bomber" Joe Louis.

fighters with great physical gifts tend to look spectacular against lesser opposition. The BEST are usually marked out with fantastic fundamentals & technique more than fantastic gifts; which even if it doesn't always translate to looking especially 'impressive' all the time, translates to being able to beat other great fighters.

Just my opinion based on observation. Jones WAS a great fighter, but not among the very, very greatest, IMHO.
