Time to start a handstand pushup thread. I just tried to do one, and my balance was all screwed up. I had a hard time getting up and against the wall. I was actually doing a handstand for like 3 seconds while trying to get my feet balanced against the wall.

I wound up getting halfway down about three times. It felt weird after a long time of not having done them. I plan on trying them about 5 more times today. If I can get one full one without slipping, I'll be happy.

That was another concern. Slipping and falling. It's like when I started chinups. All the stabilizer muscles have to toughen up first!

Buddy, the HSPU is a little akward at first but you'll get it quick (with wall anyway)
I still use the wall, I can't wait until I can do it without the wall but for now I need it

I'm really trying to master handstands.. I practice them daily.. one of my goals is to walk a football field on my hands.. I'm getting better at it but not that good yet!

I am up to 30 or so HSPU on the wall

Well, 40 posts into this thread, and Tyler has not posted a single workout. He wanted to keep track of workouts and progress, yet he hasn't added anything thus far. :dunno:

C'mon, Tyler. Let's see those workouts posted!

    lol

man.. I was just thinking I really need to step up the intensity Buddy..

I gotta rig up some dumbells in a backpack cuz I dont have a weighted vest, then I could do weighted chins

have you tried doing your chins holding onto towls over the bar instead of the bar? I hear that's tough

That would be tough, and like it is too tough for me right now. I want to develop my grip, and having a towel slide around would just decrease the traction. You could do it for awhile, but as you said before, when are you going to do that in real life?

The closest would be wearing gloves. You're not likely to climb anything by wrapping a towel around it and then gripping the towel with your hands. That's just not common. More likely, you'd use gloves.

with the towels, you put the towels over the bar and grip on the towels, as in they are hanging vertically.. you grip them like that.. does that make sense?

No no, I understand what you're saying. You're making the exercise harder by having to grip the towel, which is wrapped around the bar but not fastened to the bar with tape or anything.

The towel will slip and move around. Your grip has to be harder to compensate. Sounds good, but I couldn't handle it yet. :dunno:

And as I said, you don't always have a towel around like when you're at work, for instance.

nah.. not wrapped around.. drapped over.. like you are hanging it on the bar to dry

Use a thick towel, I guess. Gripping the bar would be more effective in my opinion, but I guess your idea is a change of pace to shock the muscles...particularly the gripping muscles?

Well, the handstand pushups have made things interesting when it comes to working shoulders.

Last week I got 10 or so reps with 195...I can't remember exactly.

This week I did 11 reps with 205 in the standing power press, no problem.

Then I thought, what the hell---toss 225 on the Olympic bar, so that is four 45lb plates and the Olympic bar.

It looked like I was tossing it up, it was so easy. Then I held it for 5 secs, and then lowered it back down to my shoulders slowly for a count of at least 5 on the way down.

Yep, handstand pushups are pretty great!

    that's what I'm sayin Buddy!

I had not actually shouldered in a while.. I went to my buddy's gym..

185 (a plate and a quarter) was like nothing.. honestly.. I could have done 30-40 reps

    205 (plate and 35) an easy 15

    225 (2 plates) prolly did like 12...

I was suprised.. that is all from HSPU's

But.. I guess if you consider my weight.. (currently 196- down from 210) and I do lots of HSPU's.. that's good weight

I'll post a clip when I can do 25 handstand pushups. I'll have a specific goal for each clip I do. For example, pressing 315 over my head, doing chins with a 50lb vest, squatting 500.

I plan on posting goals as soon as I acomplish them.

Shit, did I forget to post yesterday's training?

I did 3 sets of 10 in chinups
I did 3 sets of 3 in handstand pushups

and then there was my gym workout:

    Standing Power Presses
    1*6(125lbs)---a light warmup
    1*6(165ls)
    1*11(205lbs)

    Rotator Cuff Raises
    1*20(10lbs)
    1*20(10lbs)

    Incline Presses
    1*50(45lbs)
    1*50(45lbs)

    Upright Rows
    1*30(45lbs)
    1*35(45lbs)

    Bench Presses
    1*50(45lbs)
    1*50(45lbs)

    Lateral Raises
    1*20(20lbs)
    1*20(20lbs)

    Decline Presses
    1*50(45lbs)
    1*50(45lbs)

    Bent Over Laterals
    1*20(20lbs)
    1*20(20lbs)

See, I'm hardly a powerlifter. I tone everything except for the heavy compound movements in which I want to build strength.
