Hatton's level of opposition. You choose to look at weight class, that is not unreasonable but I think that level of opposition is more important.

Gatti could be better in some weight classes than others but he is never in any weight class going ot be (was never going to be) a top tiere fighter.

Awwww. Come on Reed... That's not fair at all.. I think the Tito fight was easier to watch, but the hype and atmosphere of Oscar-Floyd was greater.

But fight for fight, Tito-Oscar was far more entertaining.. Floyd is rarely fun to watch.

His level of opposition isn't that higher than Margarito's. Kostya Tszyu is the best win on either ledger, but there's not much to give the edge to Hatton beyond that.

Certainly Hatton didn't prove much in his one fight at welterweight...nothing to suggest he's better than Margrito at the weight, when AM's been ranked in the top 5 of the division for several years.

And given how deep the welterweight division is, it's pretty weak to searching south for an opponent.

But then, Hatton "called Mayweather out", so PBF has to fight him now.

In your Hypothetical situation, the best fight would be Cotto. Hatton isn't even a welterweight and got his ass kicked the last time he stepped up to 147 winning a highly disputed decision against a fringe belt holder.

So when is Fraud going to fight Cotto? :dunno:

I thought both fights under delivered but Fraud-Dela Joto was painful to watch at times. 2.4 million buys and people got to watch Fraud dance all night.

At least Dela Hoya was throwing flashy combos and schooling Trinidad for the first half of the fight, and then we got the drama of a 'gassing' Dela Joto running for dear life as Tito chased.

If boxing had a chance to revive itself, Fraud proved he wasn't the injection the sport needed.

It doesn't matter who Floyd fights, the bottom line is that there is no dispute that there are challenges out there that cannot be considered certain wins for Floyd.

Hell, there are 3 undefeated fighters at 140-147 that all deserve Floyd's attention.

Now boxing fans are expected to be self righteous about what is best for the sport?

Listen Bamma you could clear up issues of this sort in a day by having standards and making all fights mandatory under one set of rules. In the meantime fighters will take fights based on the take and other issues related to self interest. Floyd is no different in this regard to any other fighter.

In the meantime fighters getting rich off a fight that fans paid for (even if it was fixed as a glorified sparring match) is not a moral atrocity. Promoters fooling fighters out of their purses like King and Arum is and has been a moral issue that needs to be addressed. God bless a fighter who can make and keep his money! Even if Hanzy is right and Floyd will be begging for quarters in Vegas in a few years.

Fraud before the Dela Joto fight: "I'm going to punish Dela Hoya, I'm going to make him quit."

Fraud should be sued for false advertising or at least deceptive marketing ploys.

I remember walking into my building one day and hearing the security guard and a delivery man talking about the fight.

One of them said it was going to be a war and the other agreed.

I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.

That Zoo victory in addition to Castillo is pretty significant. Maybe in your part of the East Bay Zoo and Castillo are not considered first Tiere guys, but over here in NOPA they are both considered first Tiere guys. And Ricky beat Maussa... a solid second tiere guy, definitely no slouch.

Hatton is a devistating body puncher Mitchell and you know that. Margarito is a solid welter, that is the most he has proved. I can't argue with a man who thinks Margarito is more of a threat than Hatton.:nono:

You really thought Castillo was a top tier guy at 140?

What with the move up in weight, the layoff (due to suspension), the wear and tear, and the questionable performance against Ndougou.

This is the problem I have with just listing names, regardless of where (the time and weight) they're at in their careers.

Look at the (version of the) fighters who were in the ring.

Hatton's a good fighter, but he's short with short arms - and strong as hell - and the only real way he can cut the distance is to jump in and hold and punch on the break.

A good referee and a fighter who can hit him on the way in can negate much of his offense, IMO...especially at 147.

BTW, Maussa is no where near the level of Margarito, that's seems ridiculous to make the comparison.

Jones may have been in sparring matches but at least he looked entertaining doing it.

Jones would do things like the "hands behind the back" KO, or the "triple left hook special", and or my personal favorite "The Virgil Hill rib breaker."

Fraud fights are all the same: Fraud dances at a distance, leaps in for a pot shot (right cross or leaping left hook, you choose), lingers on the ropes blocking shots, dances some more, more pot shots, etc etc. ZZZzzzz...[IMG]

And I'd argue that for his particular division, Roy fought nearly everyone at the top with 1 or 2 exceptions like Dariusz whose refusal to fight outside of Germany pretty much made the fight impossible.

One of my wife's best friends came over with her hubby and new baby. After cooking dinner for them I got to chill with the baby while watching the fight. The little guy was a good sport. He farted a couple of times but really seemed to be listening as I explained boxing to him.

I volunteered for baby duty, as it reminds me of when my little ones were coming up. Nothing like a bald melon to hold while watching Williams dance around the ring.

Do you even acknowledge a point's been made in a post, or do you just bypass that response for another point?

The fact is, the division has changed a lot since Mayweather was last in it.

Cotto moved up, Mosley down, and Williams is a new champion.

Mayweather shouldn't be looking down in weight to make a fight at 147.

I have said on several occasions that the weight classes are not as important to me as the level of opposition. You can nitpick on why every fighter won a fight.

Floyd should be able to take a fight in any division he is capable of fighting at.

You act like everyfighter is worthy if he just has the right attributes and is fighting in the right weight class. So yeah I guess Hatton is just lucky that he fought Castillo in the right weight class:notallthere: and Margarito is just the bees knees because he has beat mediocre opposition consistently as a welter?

Maussa is a tough fighter to beat. He exposed Vivian Harris... who has Margarito fought at Harris' level? Maussa also has a great chin nd was KO'ed by Ricky bit oh wait.... it was the weight class that is responsible for that. If they had fought at 147 it would have been totally different.

And since when can Margarito be compared to Hatton? You could compare Margarito to Cotto in some respects.... even if anyone with two eyes can see that Cotto is a more accomplished puncher, more technically sound and has beaten a guy who has fought at the top (Judah).

Hatton is a more accomplished fighter who has fought and beaten top opposition. I don't care what weight class the opposition is in, the man is undefeated. People need to recognize that Hatton is a lot more dangerous fight than Margarito.

I think Hatton's fortunate he fought Castillo when and where he did, yes.

Cintron and Clottey are ranked by most people in the top 5-8 in the division. That isn't mediocre...no matter how many times you say it.

He also moved up in weight and arguably beat Daniel Santos who was a champion at 154 despite still being able to make 147 EASILY (three years later), also not mediocre...and not the sign of a fighter looking to take easy fights.

As for Maussa, this is the problem when you base your opinion of a fighter based on one fight (and one win)...two if you count his upset of Jeffrey Resto (a hyped former amateur star who didn't turn out to be much...yet in his career).

It should be evident from watching Maussa he's not on par with Margarito...but even if you won't accept that point, at least recognize that losses to Cotto, Morua, Hatton and Garnica show more about him than one win over Harris.

He has shown no staying power at/near the top of the division...Margarito has already been considered among the top 147 pounders for years...and a WBO champion since 2002. Overall, he's simply fought and beaten a higher class of opposition for a longer period of his career.

He's a p4p fighter, but he gained most of those p4p wins in England with his hometown referee.

Let's not pretend to avoid that point, either.

Hatton would not be considered a top welterweight based on his narrow win over Collazo....not when Mosley beat him easily.

Cotto's rise to 147 has been much more impressive...had Hatton done that instead of squeeze out a points victory based on a first round knockdown, it might be different.

I'd love to see Mayweather-Hatton at 140, but everybody knows that he's not a welterweight.

    Just to remind you:
