It better be a masterpiece for anyone enduring that running time. Heck, even 'Avengers: Endgame' suffered from being too fucking long!

You do realize that DeNiro is only a quarter Italian, right? His father was Italian/Irish.

His mother was a mix of all kinds of white (French, English, German). So, technically, he is qualified to play an Irishman.

Pacino, Pesci, and Scorsese are full ginzos.

He's not Irish ... you should at least be half if you're going to play THE IRISHMAN

Clogg, Ugottabe Kidding and Whiskey star in Martin Scorsese's THE BLACK GUY

My wife says shit like "I'm 15% Irish! So I'm Irish too"

I laugh and then batter her while singing "Four Green Fields"

"The Polish Genius", a project that's been in the works since 1992, is still on hold. Nobody can figure out how to make the film believable.

Got as far as 1hr in.

Just another typical Scorsese/De Niro/Pesci 'gangstah' flick showing the typical cuntish nature of Irish/Italian-Americans: human vermin who need exterminating...

Huge error having DeNiro play the young character. Watching him beat someone up was like watching a pensioner trying a soft shoe shuffle.

    So I just finished this.
It’s alright. Wouldn’t watch it again.

EDIT - actually I have more to say.

There is no good reason to use the deaging shit they used here. Get a younger actor to play the character. You wanted it to be all RDN? Ok. The trade off was that your young character stood and moved like a frail old man. Absolutely terrible decision.
This was made to have all the old heads back together on screen but honestly it’s a waste.

It’s boring. Now Scorsese films have slow parts but this one plodded along like the titular character did towards the end of the film. I’m seeing ‘classic’ ‘a return to real cinema’ etc. if all you watch is cape shit then yeah I guess it is but it’s also interminable.

Bright spots: Pesci. Excellent understated performance, I won’t even bring up the fact that his character spends half the movie sitting or nodding off because he’s an old man and that’d be cruel.

Pacino. Yeah he went into Heat territory a couple times but I think overall he did a fine job.

Stephen Graham. Continues to impress. Liked him as Capone in Boardwalk, liked him here. Good if underutilized actor.

Other than that, what do you want from me? Romano wasn’t awful.

The point: hideous miscasting of DeNiro here. I’m talking Johnny Depp Black Mass bad casting. He’s done. Finished. At least as a leading man in these things. Yeah. They’ve all been great in the past and can be again in spurts but does that mean this is a masterpiece?

It’s a lifetime achievement award. Congrats guys.

I saw it today as well. Just got too busy afterwards to post about it.

It was very good. I'd give it like an 8.5/10.

As far as Scorsese crime films go, it doesn't hold a candle to Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, and Mean Streets, but that's okay - those are three masterpieces.

It was probably better than Casino, but Casino is a bit more fun to watch. It was better made than Casino though.

De Niro and Pesci both turned in very good performances, but truthfully, Pacino stole the show in this one and out-acted both of them. I think he deserves an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

I heard Pacino was excellent. I heard Peci is the favorite for the Supporting Oscar though. Probably just to lure him back into Hollywood full time. Maybe we will get that My Cousin Vinny Sequel

Pacino turned in his best performance since the 90s, easily. I feel like he knows this was his last major movie, and gave all the talent he has left.

Everyone knows that De Niro out-acted him in Heat, by far, but it was the opposite in this one.

Actually, I'd say both Pacino and Pesci out-acted De Niro in this one.

well the reason Pacino out acted him this time is because for the past 10 years Pacino has been crafting his skill in character acting. He has been putting In the work. Deniro has just done nothing but the same shit.

I’m still in the middle of it. But man Bobby cannavale should have played deniros role. Deniro’s movement is cringe and the deaging is not as good as advertised.

Missed him in my summary. Cannavale should have featured more but as an Irishman? Nah.

He could do it. He just needs the shot. Lighten his hair up. He is tall enough. But he is also young enough to pull some of these scenes off.

Just finished it. It started rocky. Almost like Scorsese lost a step. But once Pacino came in, it got really good. All actors were amazing. Deniro pulled it off fine in the end. The early stuff when he was younger, not so much. Pesci was cool. He wasn’t the scary Pesci we all know, but ironically he had the most power in this role. Pacino was great. Every scene he was in, he owned it. His inability to be reasoned with great. I really felt it and the frustration others were feeling not being able to get through to him.

How would you rate it among Marty crime classics?

I'd rate it below Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Mean Streets, but above Casino, and The Departed.

I’m not a huge fan of taxi driver and mean streets is good but Marty was still so raw. Lots of issues. The departed is a remake of a Chinese trilogy that i thought was overall better. I would put it up there tho. Not as good as goodfellas but it’s arguably in his top 5. It’s an epic movie. Very long but its amazing story telling.
