    Just lazy, old and bitter old man. Even his wife of 20 plus years recently left his ass. I mean I don’t mind him being him. Like jack and Denzel. But he seems to dial it in most of the time now.

    I have been forcing myself to watch this boring lame ass overrated piece of shit film for the last few days. I can only watch like 20 minutes at a time before I decide to end the torture for the next day. This movie is trash and DeNiro is completely shot as an actor. Pacino is mildly watchable as Hoffa, but I am not buying he is Hoffa, but a caricature of the man. If this film wasn't directed by Scorcese, but was by lets say, McG, critics would have called it was it really is: a boring lame ass trash.

    WRONG! But since you are bringing this up: Scorcese reportedly spend a fortune in CGI special effects to de-age the main characters and honestly he was robbed: 'young DeNiro & Pesci" look awfully bad as 'younger men'. These de-aging effects looked amateurish, like they were made by youtube fans, and Scorcese should have hired real pros from the Marvel Studio which did MARVELS with Michael Douglas and Robert Downy Jr.

    Those are short term anti aging that marvel did. They could not pull that off for 2 hours in all sorts of situations. What the Irishman did was revolutionary in anti aging.

    :Cry111:Anthony, please, those CGI were CRAP; they looked as old as they really are with just some airbrushed wrinkles. The scene were 'young' DeNiro beats the store guy and then walks away like the geriatric he really is was unintentionally comical and sad that Scorcese didn't cut it out.

    Shit movie. Long winded and boring. Way too much unnecessary politics in a gangster movie. Also you know Scorcese has lost it when he feels too much connection to his film to cut any of it out. Also what was up with the slo mo assassination parade and wedding? Was there a point to that?

    It’s the only scene I had issues with. Scorsese should have shot that up close like he normally does.

    Yes and those are usually interesting but political politics which can also be interesting were in this case quite boring. So I guess I should be hating the player (Scorcese) not the game (politics). Have you been arguing that this movie is good Anthony? Because I personally think it failed in many areas. One of which was the insistence on using Pacino, Deniro and Pesci as if they all were still at their peak. Even if they were this was hardly material worthy of them at their peak.

    Pesci’s role was limited so I don’t understand your point there. Pacino gave one of his best performances of the last 25 years. Deniro wasn’t anything special. I thought the movie was terrific. I guess one would have to find the Hoffa story interesting. I have always been fascinated about the man and his death.

    Do you think that all time De Niro is the weakest link when compared to Pacino and Nicholson?

    I always, always felt Pacino and Nicholson were better actors and I always got shit for it.

    I think prior to 1996 i would give the nod to Deniro. But there came a time that Deniro just stopped giving a fuck. Pacino then began to up his craft by taking on these amazing character parts. The movies werent great, but his performances were good. Jack is a different animal IMO. Jack is Jack. I mean if you ever seen Deniro and Pacino when the are being interviewed they are different people. Pacino is like a woman in person. Jack never changes. He has been exactly the same on screen and off screen for 40 years.

    I would be more generous than that. I would say it's his best performance since Merchant of Venice. We cant forget his performances in Donnie Brasco & Any Given Sunday.

    Back in the early 80s I watched a more interesting Hoffa film, "Blood Feud" starring Robert Blake. That tv movie shits on 'The Irishman'.

    That was about Hoffa and Kennedy. The Irishman is about deniro character. Blood feud also didn’t explain his death. The Irishman by most accounts is what really happened. It shits on nothing.
