I think a few million of Floyd Sr's braincells would disagree with you...if they hadn't been killed by that flurry shortly after the 15 second mark of the vid.::
In the Weaver/Tate fight, Tate was about as knocked out as a fighter can be. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/la41LzOJXcU&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/la41LzOJXcU&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Sly was all to happy to demonstrate Floyd Sr's finishing move when we met in Toronto, and I'm not talking about the shoulder roll. ::
A rarely mentioned one: <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xrfVcUCVifI&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xrfVcUCVifI&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I disagree. I've looked at the footage closely from various angles and i'm fairly confident it's legit.
That's what they used to call Witherspoon's looping right hand that caught you right on or behind the ear: the can-opener. ::
Ah yes, Witherspoon vs Bruno, Witherspoon vs Smith, the glory days of heavyweight division.....:shit:
Witherspoon-Bruno was one of the first big HW fights that I watched live on television...I remember getting caught up in the announcers' cheerleading for Bruno, and although I haven't seen it since, I remember him doing well before it all went downhill...it was a real downer as a ten-year old.
Bruno did what he always did.....fought well at the start, was well in he fight, then he got tired and fell apart and Witherspoon poured on the punches and stopped him. Witherspoon also hit him when he was down, but Terry Lawless, who died only very recently, had flung in the towel by then. The Referee actually had to pick Bruno up {no easy task} and help get him back to his corner. Reg Gutteridge was doing the commentary, a usually even handed fella. He too only died recently. Damn. This thread is bad for old people.
Reg Gutteridge was Pound for Pound the worst boxing commentator in history. it was simply painful to listen to him. He'd send you to sleep.
