Hatton wouldnt have beaten Palimino, let alone Leonard. Hatton beats a used-up Castillo, and suddenly he's being compared to one of the 10 greatest fighters who ever lived.
Ever heard of a guy named Chavez? Are you saying that Ricky coulda beaten Chavez, Benitez, a prime Taylor, and a 140 Oscar?
Why does Hatton have to be the modern day anything? Can't he just be Ricky Hatton? NOBODY is going to come off well being compared to the best fighter of all-time. Not a soul.
You've affirmed my suspicions, did u answer my points yet, or do u always resort to hyperbole and supposed street sense at every turn?
this is the problem with stupid people, show me in this thread, where I so much as implied Hatton was on Duran's level.
If anything, he's a 140 version of McGugian, more so than Duran. Only i dont think McGugian grappled as much.
He is just Ricky Hatton, but watching him fight, it reminds me of watching LW tapes of Duran the way he walks through his opponents. Nobody gets defensive when people say "Andre Dirrell sure tries to fight like Roy" and nobody says a word when u hear that Toney fights like Archie Moore, all im saying is Duran is clearly Hatton's fighting idol.
Oh yeah, what about the guy (I forget who) who called Gatti the "Italian Sugar Ray Leonard" or something like that?? Does anyone remember that one??
McGuigan couldn't call Rickys fights.:nono: Hatton is a 140lb version of Gene Fullmer, if anyone. He has that "I am stronger than thou" style, with an aggressive head/body attack.
Why not? Like Hatton, McGugian's best win was over a faded former great in Pedroza. Hatton might be better cause he'll have more longevity than McGugian, but he's alot closer to being McGugian than fuckin Roberto Duran!
The Duran comparison was off, as are most comparisons. Boxers, as men or athletes, are unique. The McGuigan comparison is off base by a mile. We aren't talking career accomplishments, and even if we were, McGuigans fade into nothing when compared to Hatton. Be real:nono:
dsimon writes: This is the way I see it. With this caveat. fighters can become more versatile and learn to set different things up if they have a strength to begin with. Hatton has some skills when he doesn't fight dirty that he can build on to set up his mauling attacks. But if he relies on holding and humping he will become like Ruiz. If, on the other hand he gets his jab together, which he used really well against Maussa, he could be formidable.
dsimon writes:  Good comparison Ortho! Both guys punch(ed) at awckwad angles and overwhelmed. Hatton might be a stronger puncher in the final analysis.
i think hatton has bigger one punch power than duran, but thats about all he has on him. their styles are vaguely similar. i agree with the post earlier in this thread...hatton is more like barry mcguigan, except just alittle better at just about everything.
:: NO fucking way. I have said many times since saturday that hatton's power is underrated by most here, but no way he hits harder than Duran. Duran's right hand was awesome. Watch Hatton - Collazo at 147, and Hatton - Castillo at 140, then watch Duran - Moore at 154, and Duran Barkley at 160 and tell me if you still think Hatton hits harder. No way, no how.
Duran never scored a one punch knockout over a solid DURABLE opponent ever. Hatton has over Castillo AND Carlos Maussa. Duran had heavy hands, but that doesn't mean he had one punch power. The amount of clean power punches Duran landed on Moore and Barkley, if he had one punch knockout power those fights would've been over in 1 or 2 rounds. Now I'm not arguing that Hatton is as good or near as good as Duran, but I definitely think he has a bigger punch.
Hatton has more one punch pop than a dude who was scoring KO's over guys fifty times his size, later in his career? Pencil neck, that was weak dude.
Duran beat those guys down, Hatton took out a guy like Castillo with one punch. Duran NEVER stopped a fighter as durable as Castillo...let alone with one punch. Duran is the better offensive fighter, and has much better offensive tools, there is no denying this. But as far as one big punch is concerned, I'm taking Hatton.
