Really it's 10/10. But it's just so dark and grim. You don't exactly come out of it feeling uplifted.

The first two Godfather films are 10/10 if any films ever were

Coppola later put out "Godfather... The Complete Epic 1902-1958" which took the first two films and rearranged them into chronological order (so the DeNiro stuff first) with a few deleted scenes thrown in... This was absolutely staggering presented in this way... One gigantic 6 and a half hour masterpiece... For whatever reason, I don't think it has ever been put out this way on DVD

It's amazing how good pacino is in those films. It's a shame he didn't have somebody like Coppola keeping him from chewing the walls through the rest of his career

    I think that's too harsh

He was brilliant in films apart from the Godfather... Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon (his greatest performance, IMO), Sea Of Love, Glengarry, Donnie Brasco, The Insider

I don't see any of those as scenery chewing films

this movie gets a bad rap, but it's actually pretty damn entertaining and some good Pacino moments in it.

    Nixon 6/10
    W. 6/10

I found both unsettling. Oliver Stone is a bit of a headfucker.

All three were excellent and "Nixon" was the only one that was even remotely supposed to be taken seriously. "JFK" was an exercise in conspiracy theory, throwing as much shit against the wall as possible. Mostly bullshit but highly entertaining IMO.

"W" was straight up parody, and even at that was more then fair to George W.. It pretty much portrayed him as a decent dude who was in over his head with the company he kept. I think it was Josh Brolin's best acting performance by far.

I give them all a rating of 11/10, while reserving my highest 12/10 rating, for every film in the "SAW" movie franchise. :bears:

:pissed:JFK is a masterpiece. Was nominated for a bunch of Oscars including best picture. It was the movie that put Gary Oldman in the map and revived Tommy Lee Jones career. Everything in it was the gospel truth!

Maleficent or how to remake a beloved classic the wrong way. This could be just Disney's Sleeping Beauty's nightmare while she was asleep: the evil one is not evil, just misunderstood and she took care of naïve Princess Aurora instead of killing her like the original one would had done in a blink. Angelina Jolie is efficient here, but not particularly memorable. The final showdown is, er, epic? but completely ridiculous with Maleficient's costume looking like an X-Men spandex reject. They were channeling Peter Jackson, but didn't work. Still entertaining if all the drastic changes doesn't irritate you. 6.5/10

    The Immigrant
brilliantly acted drama about an immigrant woman who arrives at Ellis island with her sister from their native Polland at the turn of the last century only to be separated by her sister's illness. She is rescued by Bruno (Joaquin Phoenix) a sideshow entrepreneur who seems caring for Ewa (Marion Cotillard), but manipulates her into his real trade: prostitution. Enter the scene magician Orlando (Jeremy Renner) and the not-so-perfect world of Ewa will turn even worst. The film has great costumes, sets and excellent cinematography. The direction is a little stiff and the movie drags too long in its second half. Could had been a much better film, but it isn't. Good to watch mainly because of the performances, particularly by its lead actress Marion Cotillard, who proves once again that her Oscar winning turn in La Vie En Rose was no fluke. 7/10

Dawn of The Planet of The Apes
Very good film. More satisfying than the previous one, but still 'not-getting-there-yet' in my book. For that I mean that the producers of this franchise are slowly building a solid prelude to what could be an Avengers-like epic future film that will blow our heads. In the meanwhile we still get these brilliant 'origins' films in what feels like the greatest cinematic tease ever. Is like a hot chick who arouses you and you have the greatest most erotic foreplay ever...but, dammit, when those legs are going to spread open to get the REAL fun? 8.5/10

Joe- 7.5/10. Great performances by Nic Cage and Tye Sheridan (the kid from Mud) and the guy who plays the kid's father, who was a homeless drifter type of guy when he got the part. He then died shortly after the shooting completed. Worth a watch for sure.

jaja. The scenes weren't meant to be remotely accurate, just tell the truth in a condensed, stylized way. As you say, I thought the piece was more sympathetic to W overall than it might have been. W as an unthinking manchild of course, but a more likeable & decent manchild than he is. I'd have made more of Ws sadistic streak, personaly, i think it's key to his personality. Most executions of any Governor in history, the gloating after executions, torturing animals, pumping his fist and whooping as he watched the bombings in Bagdahd, the history of bullying. The guy is emotionally disturbed. I thought the film was slightly unsettling but it might have been much more so. I guess Stone felt he had to walk a line.

I've never watched JFK. Isnt the footage of Kennedy's brains & skull being blown apart repeated again and again? I can't watch that shit.

It's the one snuff film everybody in America has seen over and over again, to the point most people don't even react to anymore. Odd, in a way.
