Just watched The Sentinel again. I just finished reading the book so I figured I'd give the movie another spin. A great 70's era horror flick about a woman who moves into an old Brownstone in Manhattan after the death of her estranged father. Strange things begin to happen to her as she meets the other tenants in the building, especially a blind priest who sits staring out of his 5th floor window all day and night. It starts a little slow but everything comes together nicely and the ending is excellent.

Christina Raines is the star. She didn't really do a whole lot else as far as movies, but she's very 70's Hot in this one. The rest of the cast is a bunch of familiar names like Burgess Meredith, Chris Sarandon, Ava Gardner, Eli Wallach, Jerry Orbach, and appearances by a bunch who were unknowns then but went on to become stars like Christopher Walken, Tom Berenger, Beverly D'angelo (in a creepy masturbation scene), and Jeff Goldblum.

The movie isn't on Netflix anymore, but I watched online on this site....

Definitely worth watching if you're into the 70's horror genre.

    The King's Speech

Very fine acting, feel good movie, loved the overall photography and aesthetics. I don't get why it won so many awards at the Oscars, but it is good. 8/10

Transformers: Age of Ultron, I mean, Extinction Ok first things first: I hate all these films. I can't explain its appeal to anyone older than 10 years old. The previous one was sleep inducing and can cause severe brain damage so I couldn't watch the whole stupid thing. That said, I had to admit this last one is at least watchable thanks to Mark Whalberg who is a huge improvement over 'I am not famous anymore' Shia LaBeouf. Nicola Peltz is just one-dimensional eye candy like all the previous franchise chicks with the difference that she plays a 17 year old which makes all her 'sexy shots' creepy & plain wrong. The plot...who cares? this is just an excuse for all the CGI mayhem which this time is a little less seizure inducing which is a good thing. The film is as dumb as previous ones and tries hard with is 'tragic music' soundtrack to manipulate us to feel 'sad' for a couple of stupid looking robots in danger who we just previously watched like for two minutes. The film is WAY too long for its own good playing at 2:45 hours. Had Michael Bay edited it to just two hours it could have been a good movie nonetheless its moronic premise. As it stands is merely average.5/10

The Equalizer: 7/10......a little like Man On Fire....it started out real, showing us Denzel character..and his relation with Grace Moretz...all the way up to the killing of the Ruskis...Then it drag a bit...but it pick up nicely near the end....

Generation War, a story of 5 German friends and how theirs lives changed during WW2. This is a 3 part mini series available on Netlifx. If you like war movies this is well worth a watch. 7/10

Aye, Ah watched that in German (called 'Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter', literally "Oor mothers, oor fathers") a few months back and Ah can pay it no higher compliment then for it tae be o' 'Band o' Brothers' quality. Ah even spent some o' ma hard earned loot on buying the bluray as a pressie fer one o' ma pals.

Seeing that thoughtful, almost half-pacifist younger brother's descent intae becoming the most barbaric war machine wiz particularly sho-acking.

Anyone who would give Transformers EOE a 7 out of 10 should probably steer clear of this type of film or any other that isn't made for simpletons.

Saw The Equalizer AND Gone Girl this weekend. Neither disappointed. Although of the two, Gone Girl was excellent, while The Equalizer was merely "good".

My pal, who generally has good taste, claimed Gone girl was the best film he'd seen in years. I'll have to try and catch that and a most wanted man soon

Runner, Runner - Former college kid confronts on line gambling tycoon on some Caribbean island. Tycoon like this kids spunky attitude, and offers him a job.........things are not as they seem, hijinks ensue.

Affleck, Timberlake, Arterton, Mackie! Competent cast. Complete shit movie. Affleck mumbles his way through, like he knows this is a shit movie, and there's nothing he can do about it. Timberlake looks like he's stuck in an SNL video short sketch. Mackie and Arterton are completely wasted as pointless and one-dimensional characters.

    3/10

I dunno what movie you were watching. Runner Runner was pathetic. The previews fooled me into thinking it might be a good movie. But, nope! It was shit.

Lucky for Affleck, he didnt make two duds in a row, because Gone Girl was very good.

Saw a couple movies lately that don't have their own thread.

The Help - Fictional film set in the civil rights era. A bunch of black maids get interviewed for a white woman's book where they get to tell their side of being a maid to white families who for the most part see them as less than equal. Awesome movie, one of the best dramas I've seen in a while. Sure they go out of their way to try to tug at your heart strings, and it's cliche as hell, but if I can sit and enjoy a movie and the negatives aren't screamingly obvious to the detriment of my enjoyment, why complain about it. I'll leave that to you nit pickers. 8.5/10

Stretch - The protagonist's love of his life dumps him, he starts limo driving and one of his gambling debts gets a pay us in 24 hours or else bump up. Not a bad film. Had humor, good slick dialogue, some action and the main character just had the kind of charisma you root for. Also nice funny cameo's from Ray Liotta and David Hasselhoff as well as larger roles from Chris Pine, Jessica Alba and Ed Helms. It's a little over the top, but it gets the job done. 6/10.
