Shoot Em Up was intended to be cheesy. It was like a spoof of action movies, where there's constant action, with about two minutes of non-action strictly to set up the next action scene.

Going into it knowing that, I enjoyed the movie.

 Yeah I realize that, but when I first popped in the movie I was expecting your typical Clive Owen flick. I've never really been into that sorta movie (never liked Kill Bill or that recent flick Tarantino put out) but I realize a lot do, so I didn't rate the movie.

Wow, the After Dark Horrorfest turned out to be a crapfest. Only The Many Lives of Ian Stone turned out to be decent. The rest was SHITE!!!

I've been hearing things about this left and right, not the least of which has come from Andrew. I watched it this evening when I had the place to myself, free of influence....and I really liked it. But thats it.

It's one of those movies where I think the book will be better. As a movie, it failed to keep me as a viewer interested in what was happening to some of the peripheral characters. Tommy Lee Jones' character was a big nothing. He played the role well, it's just that his role was rubbish. Plenty of nice speeches and fancy stories...but he did SFA.

The bad guy though...now he was well crafted. He made the movie work. I don't think the guy deserved any kind of award for his acting, because he didn't have to do a whole lot of anything, other than look menacing, smile like a bad guy and carry some nice dialogue.

I'll give it a 7/10 though, because even though it couldn't possibly live up to the hype, it was still a very good movie in its own right. Again though, Id like to read the novel to at least let me create the scene a little better.

I agree, I thought he was badass, but Josh Brolin did the best job, acting wise.

I liked it a lot but it's not the Coen Brothers best movie by a longshot.

It was their best film since Blood Simple.

Another classic, balls on the line thriller.

I rate Blood Simple (the early before they fucked it up with the directors cut version) and Millers Crossing above No Country For Old Men.

Yup, my personal faves for the whole scary monster genre. 28 Weeks Later is definitely more action packed and more about the zombies while Days Later is more about .... well I can't really say without giving out the plot (though 28 weeks definitely follows through with that theme) :tease:

I never saw 28 Weeks, so I can't comment on that, but 28 Days started out really good, but about 3/4 the way through the film, it turns from really good, to really f'n retarded.

If you want a good modern Zombie flick, check out Dead Meat. The one made in Ireland. I think there's an indy short film of the same name, so don't get them confused.

Both are pretty intense, and worth seeing.... IMO 28 Weeks was better though.

    EASTERN PROMISES - 6.5/10

Premise - Young nurse in England delivers a baby from a young Russian girl who dies in surgery and tries to get her diary translated by some Russian mobsters. She meets a young rising mobster (Vigo Mortesen) who tries to warn her to stay away from them.

Critique - Don't know if I was expecting too much but I didn't really enjoy this movie too much, it was more drama and talking then I expected, with very little action. I'm pretty sure the reviews I read on here had me expecting too much thereby ruining my experience because I vividly remember waiting for some of the scenes I heard about.

ICING ON THE CAKE - Chalk up another movie that had a bad ending IMO. I thought this one ended way too abruptly without answering a few questions. It felt like they just wanted to get the thing overwith.

    Rewatchability - 2/5

    There will be Blood.

I really enjoyed this movie it was better than I had anticipated.
Day Lewis gives a great performance, love him or hate him the guy owns every scene and demands attention.

it is about casting to complete the "game of death" that bruce never finished before he died..

    it is somewhat funny...

the real movie Game of death blew.

Anderson made two good fils: bottle rocket, rushmore. All else stinks IMO.

Saw Red Eye, fun beginning, deteriorated quickly, 3/10.
