Cheesy hunk of crap with no redeeming social value whatsoever! I loved it!

I couldn't believe they would have the Queen mother alien sending eggs down pregnant women's throats in the maternity ward of the hospital. Then, instead of babies coming out, alien babies ripped open the stomach...and at least one stomach had three alien baby heads sticking out. It was so bad that it was actually kinda good! :eeeek:

Utter shit, but some shit is fun to watch! :bears:

BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD

    SCORE - B

PREMISE - Andy (Philip Seymour Hoffman) has planned the perfect crime and just needs his brother Hank (Ethan Hawke) to execute it. However, the job means that Hank must rob his own mom and dad's (Rosemary Harris, Albert Finney) jewelry store. The younger sibling actually goes through with the crime, his mom ends up dead, and his dad swears he'll find the killer by any means necessary.

CRITIQUE - Good drama movie. You feel the characters getting deeper in a hole and start wondering how they'll get out. The movie was chopped up in some spots kind of like with Pulp Fiction but on a much smaller scale.

    Rewatchability - 3/5

    THE KITE RUNNER

    SCORE - A

    PREMISE -
Amir and Hassan are inseparable boyhood friends in Afghanistan during the '70s, even though Amir is the son of a wealthy businessman and Hassan is the son of his servant. As the country falls into chaos, Amir is forced to leave the country with his father, leaving Hassan and his family behind. Years later after growing up & marring, Hassan is called back to Afghanistan to confront issues with his old friend Amir, and will have to avoid the Taliban to accomplish his goals.

CRITIQUE - This was the best drama I've seen in a long while. My wife read the book which she said was--obviously--better. I like how they focused on the children's friendship, the sport of kite battling, and relationship of the father and son.

EXTRA - This is one of those outstanding drama's that can't be given justice through discription or through a trailer, but must be seen to be appreciated. Think American Beauty though the movies aren't similar.

    Rewatchability - 4/5

    OCEAN'S 13

    SCORE - B

    PREMISE -
The boys club of thieves is out for revenge on jerk-o casino owner Pacino (whose evil dealings have caused criminal guru Gould to have a heart attack). Their goal is to bankrupt his new operation on opening night.

CRITIQUE - After seeing 12 I promised I'd never sit through another one, but the wife insisted and I enjoyed this one even more then the first one. The humor, plot, and chemistry were all taken up a notch since the last disappointment and this one shouldn't disappoint.

HOLLYWOOD RACIST MOMENT? - It was ridiculous enough that most of the team could understand their Asian friends chinese lingo; but why was Bernie Mac one of the only ones who couldn't?

    THE MIST

    SCORE - B+

    PREMISE -
Shoppers are trapped in a supermarket after it is enveloped in a strange mist filled with monstrous creatures. They soon have to face tough decisions, some of the creatures, and each other as some have different adgenda's such as the religious nut who starts to convert most of the people into her followers.

CRITIQUE - Best horror movie I've seen in a while. Most of the creatures we're pretty cool, although the tenticle looked a bit too fake. One scene had me clutching myself I was so wrapped up in the suspense of it. The balance between dealing with the monsters as well as some of the people in the store was done well. Gets extra credit for an outstanding ending. No twist or anything, just a great ending.

DON'T BE scared off by the fact that this is based off of a Stephen King short story. Unlike 1408, this one was a pretty long short story so they had enough material to keep things interesting and it's one of the best King movies in a long time.

    UNTRACEABLE

    SCORE - C

    PREMISE -

<!-- google_ad_section_start(name=movdetails) --> Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane) is a single mom and an investigator for the FBI's Internet Crimes division. She's called upon to solve the case of a serial killer who slowly murders his victims based on the number of visitors to his website.

CRITIQUE - Won't blow your socks off but it's worth a look. Lane is still pretty hot for her age. She's a pretty basic FBI agent so don't expect any cool smart techniques or thinking on her part. The serial killer is a disappointment although he uses different techniques for each person he kills, the killer himself isn't very interesting. The best thing about this movie is the drama and the fact that the story is decent.

Point of interest - At times during the movie you could read some of the posts made by the people viewing the murders on line. I found it interesting how some of the opinions made me think about the guys from our own fightbeat and other forums.

    HORTON HEARS A WHO

    SCORE - C

    PREMISE -
Based on the classic children's book by Dr. Seuss, an elephant named Horton (Jim Carrey) hears a cry for help, except the sound comes from a speck of dust that idly flies by his massive ear. Determined to save whoever or whatever is contained in that dust mote, Horton is ostracized from his community, because they think the big guy has lost his mind.

    CRITIQUE -
Okay movie by adult standards. I actually LOL'd for one sequence of the movie. A good plus for the movie is you get two stories in one. That of Horton who will stop at nothing to save the Whos dispite what his nemisis' throw at him, and the main Who whom must try to convince the people of his own world that trouble is amiss while dealing with his own family problems.

TO SEE OR NOT - My advice on this is to skip it if you don't have any kids, you won't be missing anything important. If you do have kids, it wouldn't hurt to watch it with them and just enjoy a moment of being a kid again.

i liked cloverfield. the direction made it all very naturalistic (although the writing wasn't naturalistic). nice, unremitting metaphor. and the monster was well done - genuinely strange, just an array of terrors.

Saw "Atonement" a couple nights ago. The wife liked it.............I thought it was melodramatic garbage and it felt like it was like 5 hours long.

The tracking scene I had kept hearing about was pretty cool but outside of that it was just ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz! By the time they had the twist at the end I just didn't care anymore.

If you're a chick, see it I guess. If not, make sure you have a pillow.

    8/10

Great film. Bale is magnificent in his role as Dieter. Gene almost steals the show though, IMO. Not enough good things to say about this, IMO.

    Mr Brooks

    7/10

Suprisingly good. I was put off by William Hurt's pressence early on, but as the movie progressed he became as important to the film as Costner did. Suitably evil, with just the right about of twist, making this concept film a sucess.

    Tears of the Sun

    5.5/10

One of the best looking war movies I've seen and even thogh its a few years old now, the battle scene's still are fantastic. Unfortunately, the plot is thin and Bruce Willis appears to be forcing his character way too much.

This movie pissed me off. Great concept, important subject and they turned "Hotel Rwanda" into "Diehard Goes To Africa".

Antoine Fuqua is the black Michael Bay. :nono:

Yeah, I can't disagree with any of this. It was entertaining in that traditional 'action good, plot bad' sense....but little more.

this movie is ok when standing alone

though i couldn't help but compare it to the original, where it fell short badly....the characters were rushed and lots of important stuff wasn't in it :dunno: i don't remember the book though so it may be closer to the book

Finally got to see There Will Be Blood, and I must say... it was robbed of best picture! Its a MUCH better movie than NCFOM, and anyone who thinks otherwise is CRAZY! I give it a 9/10... NCFOM gets a 7.5 IMO.... I just think its an incredibly overrated movie.

I watched the advance sneak preview last night. Fucking amazing! Robert Downey Jr nailed this perfectly. The CGI was flawless, and all of the people involved gave excellent performances. It also set up really well for a sequel or teamup movie.

Stay after the credits, and you get a nice surprise straight out of The Ultimates.
